I find the bible awesome. There is no greater feeling than to read the words of God Almighty.

I find a heck of a lot of it boring especially the WTBTS interpretations of it, They are so full of it sometimes. They live in the old testament. An elder and his wife stopped by to visit and ask for my help with his english, he has three parts coming up and is not quite sure how to express certain things and which words to emphasize etc.

He even mention ed that the society seems to take an awful lot of O.T. for the watchtower studies, I mentioned they are the modern day sanhedrin and he laughed so hard he almost fell out of his seat. I ask him why arent you a Jesus witness Act 1:8, and he said he often wondered that too.

The brothers Grimm are much more entertaining with their fairy tales.

Hi Chris.....Back in early July after I 'left', I bought a new Bible, looked at it for a little, then put it away and didn't open it up yet!

Right now I don't know where I stand where it comes to the Bible and God! There are days when I get so mad that I say there can't be a god, then other days I say I just don't know!

I saw a bible at the Dollar General store for a dollar. Reminded me of the early years when we "placed" the bible for a dollar when in service.

This thread also reminded me of the TMS years ago when each student would read a part of the bible, it started in Genesis and each week would continue untill the entire bible was read. If I remember correctly we would try to explain what we read after we ended our reading. This was back in the late 40s and early 50s.

It's only interesting when I read about Solomon and his 700 wives and 600 concobines, and this was before Viagra. Did he ever get any sleep? The story of David lusting after the woman he saw from his balcony......It's just too much about sex, it should be rated "R" so children couldn't read it. Of course if you like violence there is a lot of this too. Have they made a game using bible characters yet, where you go into a city and kill all the people, including the children?

I lost appreciation for the Bible as well as the meetings and opted out these 4 years.

But during this respite I have become starved for the healthy words and wisdom of the scriptures.

It was a pure pleasure the other day to pick up my Bible and read Psalm 37 And Isaiah 55

This is common in a lot of cults. The OT is full of rules and rules are what cults like. The NT is more about freedom and individuality. Believe in Jesus and you are saved period. Not a bunch of hoops to jump through. Cults scoff at a simple message like that because it takes them out of the picture. The NT is not a message of control and in order for a cult to survive it needs to be in control of its followers. It is easier for them to find statements that seem to justify their claim that they are the ones you must obey if they rely more on the OT.

Much of it is boring to me if I'm honest, but not the New Testament.

As Leolai said, when explained by good commentaries, this can give it a whole new perspective.

I hated having to remember every stupid name in the bible. I don't find it that boring, but I don't feel the need to read it over an over again like the dubs do.
