Oh, I forgot, "It Don't Come Easy" by Ringo Starr and "My Sweet Lord" by George Harrison were two that I used a lot.

Pre-departure 'Losing My Religion'. It may have been metaphorical to Stipe, but to me it was my daily bread.

    Immediate post departure 'Eternal Life' by Jeff Buckey... the lyrics are great;

Eternal life is now on my trail
Got my red glitter coffin man, just need one last nail
While all these ugly gentlemen play out their foolish games
There's a flaming red horizon that screams our names

And as your fantasies are broken in two
Did you really think this bloody road would pave the way for you
You better turn around and blow your kiss hello to life eternal
    Angel

Racist everyman, what have you done
Man, you've made a killer of your unborn son
Crown my fear your king at the point of a gun
All I want to do is love everyone

And as your fantasies are broken in two
Did you really think this bloody road would pave the way for you
You better turn around and blow your kiss hello to life eternal

There's no time for hatred, only questions
What is love, where is happiness, what is life, where is peace
When will i find the strength to bring me release

Tell me where is the love in what your prophet has said
Man, it sounds to me just like a prison for the walking dead
And i've get a message for you and your twisted hell
You better turn around and blow your kiss goodbye to life eternal
    Angel

Vs. 2 is a bit of a streach, but everything else is more or less perfect; look out for the thrash metal version he did, a bit peppier than the cut on 'Grace'...

This song meant alot to me...just substitute "JW" for "Catholic" and "elders" for "priests," and there you go. Good stuff in red.

    Forgiven--Alanis Morrissette

You know how us Catholic girls can be
We make up for so much time a little too late
I never forgot it, confusing as it was
No fun with no guilt feelings
The sinners, the saviors, the loverless priests
    I'll see you next Sunday
    Chorus:
We all had our reasons to be there
We all had a thing or two to learn
We all needed something to cling to
    So we did
I sang Alleluia in the choir
I confessed my darkest deeds to an envious man
My brothers they never went blind for what they did
But I may as well have
In the name of the Father, the Skeptic and the Son
I had one more stupid question

    Repeat Chorus
What I learned I rejected but I believe again
I will suffer the consequence of this inquisition
If I jump in this fountain, will I be forgiven
    Repeat Chorus
We all had delusions in our head
We all had our minds made up for us
We had to believe in something
    So we did

Yes - I think 'losing my religion' by REM is virtually an anthem for disaffected JW's.

If there were a compilation album called 'songs to leave the JW's by' this would surely be number 1.

I actually heard this song a while after I left, but I think the lyrics are spot on:

Its not going to stop by Aimee Mann

    It's not what you thought
    when you first began it
    You got, what you want
now you can hardly stand it though
    well now you know

    It's not going to stop
    It's not going to stop
    It's not going to stop
    Til you wise up

    You're sure, there's a cure
and you have finally found it
    You think, one drink
will shrink you to your underground
    and living down

    It's not going to stop
    It's not going to stop
    It's not going to stop
    Til you wise up

Prepare a list for what you need
before you sign away the deed

Cause it's not going to stop
    It's not going to stop
    It's not going to stop
    Til you wise up

No, it's not going to stop
    Til you wise up
No, it's not going to stop
    So just give up

    Gwyneth,

You up and stole the song from my head, but I really always stressed the other lines as important.

You know how us Catholic girls can be
We make up for so much time a little too late
I never forgot it, confusing as it was
No fun with no guilt feelings

I confessed my darkest deeds to an envious man
My brothers they never went blind for what they did
But I may as well have
In the name of the Father, the Skeptic and the Son
I had one more stupid question

THOUGHT: Add on to that the stupid question being: May I be reinstated?
