Sorry if the title sounded funky.....but it fit.

Has anyone besideds me noticed how nealy ever instance of a birth mentioned in the bible was a boy?

I realise that women were also born, or there wouldn't be a jewish race...but WHY are most births recorded of the bible hero's mostly or nearly all men?

Eve has Cain, Able, and Seth.

    Noah has 3 sons.

Abraham has children by two women...Ishmael by Hagar, and Issac by Sarai.

    Issac has Esau and Jacob.

Jacob has twelve sons...mostly by Rebeccah's maidservant except for Joseph.

Yes, some of these ones had other sons and daughters....but it seems it was the males who always were the first out of the chute. Why? Did god direct the gender?

And Adam lived on for a hundred and thirty years. Then he became father to a son in his likeness, in his image, and called his name Seth. 4 And the days of Adam after his fathering Seth came to be eight hundred years. Meanwhile he became father to sons and daughters

As I see it, the daughters are only named when something special occurs to them. for instance as in Dinah's case.

As for sperm with mostly males in it: the TODAY Newspaper "De Telegraaf" says that statistics shown: for each 1000 newborn girls there are 1058 newborn boys.

Off topic: And further above 35 years for each 100 single (living) woman there are 208 single (living) man (for most children are living with their mothers)

edited to say: A lot of the children born today in the Netherlands are'nt ethnic but from Turkish or Moroccan descent: Arabs (and they are Semitic) so there is a possibility that this Jewish / Semitic sperm is working out here too.

There is a biological reason for this Gumby you may be interested to know.

Sex was not permited amongst the Jews from the first to the fourteenth day of the womans cycle. This meant by the 14th/15th day ovulation was usually taking place. The fastest swimming sperms are the male sperms so usually they would be the first to reach the egg. The female sperms, tend to survive longest. So if ovulation did not take place for a couple of days later then the surviving sperms would be female and so you'd get a girl.

Hence, the Jews may well have had more male babies because they were usually bloody randy by day 14 to 15 when ovulation had just taken place. Get it?

Gill, it is really only quite orthodox religious Jews who follow the rules for "Family Purity" (which are more complex than just counting days). I have loads of Jewish friends who live a more "ordinary life" from what they have said. I do believe that you are quite correct, though, about that being the reason for a greater number of male offspring.

It's almost always something negative too! Notice also that it's almost ALWAYS an excuse to keep the girls at home... Dinah, the daughters that suduced the angels... Woman should be home out of site! Ok yeah this stupid ass book was written by a loving god not a bunch of men!

Also as gumby pointed out recently if a woman did have the guts to run out of the house and lets just say... ummm greet her father upon his return from war! Well we know how that ended don't we!

Jewish men had nutsacks of gold I'm tellin ya! I took some more time to move down the line of Jewish men of fame in the bible and realised something else...........,

THE WOMEN WERE THE BARREN ONES....NEVER THE GUYS.

Sarah, Rebecca, and now Solomons soon to be mom was barren.

Chapter 13 of Judges starts with the miraculous birth of Solomon.....ANOTHER MALE FIRST OUT OF A BARREN WOMANS WOMB. This story is just like Sarahs story of an angel announcing he's gonna make her womb fertile again.

What do you want to bet that if you looked for David, Saul, Joshua, Moses, etc.....you'd find they were the firstborn.

Seems just a tad bit odd that the women are always the barren ones, and it's mostly males born first.

If I ever become a Viagra saleman....I'll never sell in jewish lands.......they never seem to have a problem with gettin plenty of woodies.

Most cultures, ancient and contemporary, focus on men. It's not limited to the Bible by any means. Why? Evolutionarily, men have more physical strength and therefore are able to dominate women. Over time this has reenforced by writings such as the Bible which place men "above" women. Oh wait, so does the Koran and other "holy" books. It's just man's way to keep the focus on them, and women in their place (silent).

    At least that's my theory.

Hi Stinker....if your correct, that would make the bible a lie ya know?......... and all the other books that put men before women in this manner.

Let's just take Eve's and Noah's offspring. We can at least be sure the first three out of their loins were males. What are those chances in reality?
