    hello nb-dfed

Welcome to the board. Glad you enjoyed the thread and hope you feel the same abou the entire board. (((((Billygoat,)))) I don't understand, but I guess I don't need to. There are ofter judgemental statements made about groups of people that shouldn't be said, but I didn't take that statement as condemnation. Countryguy was just quoting the writer Dave Barry about how people ussually do not want to listen as much as they want to talk when it comes to sharing their beliefs. Country guy was just naming a few religions that he thought that was perticularly true.

    Grace,

I believe the only way people are interested in what you believe is seeing how you walk, not how you talk,
I know I am not walking as well as I could-...But you all know what flesh is...weak!!!
But that is why I love the LORD because he KNEW I couldnt do it ....So HE did it for me!!!!

Next time -Why not say to her , " I hope we can still show what both believe is true.....LOVE is the most important think in the world. ((((RUNNING from all the stones you MAY chuck....

(((((Grace))))) no stones. You are a good example of one who lives what you believe and preach. That is why I told the lady that I am happy for anyone who connects, finds God, accepts Jesus in their heart. It should make them a better person.

    Andie and Grace

As a JW I always wondered 'how I could have felt so close to God as a Baptist when I hadn't come to know the true God Jehovah'. My beliefs were in error but I was still close to God. Then as an ex witness I wondered how could I have felt so close to Jehovah while minimizing the only one who grants access to HIM, Jesus. Again, my beliefs were in error, yet I connected with God. From my reading the last two years I have come to the conviction due to my personal experience that what one thinks to be absolute religious truth doesn't really matter to God. But what does matter is the two great laws of LOVE. I , myself, do not expect anything from anyone claiming to be a Christian except LOVE. However, would I be too harsh to admit openly, that I find many self proclaimed Christian Fundamentalist put their teaching/dogma/beliefs ahead of loving their neighbor? Now I'm not saying all of them, but there seems to be a trend. I do not want to get into this if it offends.

I was a little hard on the fundamentalist in my comments. Perhaps I upset both of you. If so I apologize. Will you accept a big hug? Andie, please don't fire me as you God-father. and Grace continue doing what you do in Christian love. You have helped a lot of people. I know you both appreciate what I mean in connecting with God.

Someone (I can't remember who, sorry) in this thread said:

They feel that THEY alone have the truth, and some of them are very smug about it.

True, and unfortunately, what most of them do not realize is that the Bible very clearly points out what the only TRUTH is:

John 8:32: And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.

John 14:6: Jesus said to him, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man comes to the Father, except through Me."

John 17:17: Sanctify them through Your truth: Your Word is truth.

So, Jesus said clearly that HE was the TRUTH and that the Scriptures are THE TRUTH.

    Pistoff, that was funny.

I got shunned last summer. Went to a political meeting, ran into an old friend. I happened to be have a 'goddess' button on my jacket. (It was inoffensive, just said something nice about the goddess.)

So, we were chatting and a friend of his walked up and joined us. The conversation carried on for a few minutes. Then, my friend introduced us. The other guy looked directly at me for the first time, and started to shake my hand as he was reading my button. He did not say a word, but dropped his hand and walked away. I asked my friend "is he a rabid Christian?" He replied, "yes, I guess he was offended by your button." It was really weird. I thought, how sad to be so close-minded. I mean, I was not offended by the cross he was wearing.

Ah, well. Different strokes ... *shrug*

It is nice of you to worry what fundies think; they do not worry what you think, in my opinion. My experience is that most are idealogues; they feel that their way and only their way is right. They are inflexible. When I look at the life of Jesus, it is the anti-idealogue. He ate with sinners; he worked on the sabbath. He challenged authority when it was hypocritical. He did not pick at the little stuff.

I find Baptist to be a varied lot really. For instance, I know Andi would never even think to ask this question, so great is her faith in God's love for us, and yet the man questioning seems to be a Baptist: http://www.robrob8.com/rude_and_crude/hummer_in_heaven.htm

    jst2laws,

: She said: "You are wrong. You cannot connect to God except through 'our Lord Jesus Christ. "No one approaches the God except thought me".

Religion is a snare and a racket. Most of it consists of "you are wrong and I am right."

That's why it is a snare and a racket. JFR was right, for once in his life.

I wouldn't dream of firing you! I am not offended by your thread at all. I'm sorry you had to experience that moment to begin with. It does make it difficult to find Christianity inviting, doesn't it?

What bothers me is how if I made a racist comment like all "Jews, Italians, and blacks are the same in (insert word here) aspect" there would be an uproar on this board. What makes that any different than saying "All Baptists, Pentecostals, Mormons, etc are the same in (insert word here) aspect"? It doesn't seem too different in my opinion. Either way, the comment is a broad and very UNFAIR generalization. But sometimes this board does not have the sensitivity to that like racist comments. Whether it's just repeating something that someone else said, doesn't matter. The writer should have clarified that if that were the case, but I don't think it was.

    Just my two cents...

    Andi

PS: Can't wait to see you guys this weekend!
