"Who may avail of the provisions in the Child Victims Act?

All residents of New York who allege they were sexually abused in childhood. Persons in other jurisdictions may also sue persons and/or entities resident in New York at the time of the abuse.

For example, a person who resides in Washington may have been statute barred in their own state because they brought a case more than 10 years after their 18thbirthday. However, they could bring a case against Jehovah’s Witnesses’ legal entities in New York, if it is alleged that the corporations of Jehovah’s Witnesses located in New York were negligent in protecting the alleged victim from their abuse."

Do you know if the Governing Body or any of its members can be found personally liable in any of these cases? Or, will it all fall upon the Christian Congregation to provide restitution in the cases that they may lose.

Wondering if they may have to hire their own legal counsel.

I do recall that Gerrit Lösch hired a personal attorney for his deposition in one of the older sex abuse cases. He was not named as a defendant, but he was asked to provide a deposition because he was the oldest member.

Apparently, Losch refused to provide a deposition stating that he was not a member of the organization.

He cannot say he is not a member of the Governing Body.

Episode 26 -- not so sure they'll be able to sue the goon squad 8 personally but hope I'm wrong. More vics need to come forward to dent this beast - that one year provision needs to be extended ad infinitum to even come close to the cult's evil. Haven't watched the other links yet.

It wouldn't surprise me if a motion to dismiss as to the Governing Body only is filed in this case. When the the myriad corporations were created by Watchtower, the Governing Body was removed from the boards of all the Watchtower corporations. Since then, the boards of directors have been comprised by non-Governing Body elders only. An object of these measures was to insulate the Governing Body from litigation. We will now be able to see the effectiveness of these measures.

JW victims will have to travel to NY to take advantage of the one year statute of limitations - this time is way too restrictive but better than nothing.
