Diane Abbott has often given me moments of amusement throughout the years.

Whenever I'm feeling depressed, 30 mins of watching her varied gaffes on youtube usually cheers me up.

The following is a clip from This Week (Feb 2008) in which she seems to wonder out loud whether Mao did more good than harm. It's great to hear Michael Portillo's initial reaction ("whaaat!") and then watch him and Andrew Neil belly-laugh at Diane Abbott's comments at the end of the clip.

Perhaps she'd been at the Blue Nun XD

Feel free to add your own hilarious clips.

The labor left are transparent in their adoration of communist dictators. They have no knowledge of history or chose to wilfully ignore it for ideological reasons.

They have no knowledge of history or chose to wilfully ignore it for ideological reasons - it seems to be the latter in the case of Abbott.

Mao murdered 60 million people but he did move China away from feudalism.

    Swings and roundabouts.

In the case of many of the young Momentum-type people it's much more likely that they have no knowledge of history. These people also typically tend to be selfish.

They don't care that Mao murdered tens of millions because it happened way before they were born.

They don't care that Corbyn refused to ask the IRA to put down the bomb and bullet because it doesn't affect them.

    Anyway, back on topic ...

Diane Abbott - voted against the Iraq war in in 2003 and to stay in the EU in 2015

Michael Portillo - voted in favour of the Iraq war in 2003 and to leave the EU in 2015

So what's better? A perfect grasp of history, or a record of contemporary good judgement? I know who I would trust.

The blame for the Iraq war lies with Diane Abbott's party, Labour ... not Portillo's vote. I trust you won't be voting for Labour. XD

Yes to this day while its not acceptable to laugh at someone because of their race it is because of their class......only now instead of the upper class and the intelligenstia targeted (as mao did), its the working claSses who recieve the brunt of the blame for the ills of the world. Which is why i dont find "Little Britain"and their ilk funny.

Correct Labour is responsible for the Iraq war. And of course I wouldn't vote for the red Tories, as Labour is known around here.

I read recently read in African countries math testing in schools lowered the pass rate to 20%. God help England if Labour ever wins an election

I apologise in advance for veering off-topic in a thread I started but the following clip shows Michael Portillo's response to a gay man who is also a flaming feminist.

If this doesn't put a smile on your face, nothing will XD

Forgetting politics ... I like Portillo. He is urbane and pleasant and very intelligent. He also has a sense of humour. Watch this clip to see his attitude in defeat to 24 year old Stephen Twigge in 1997 when Labour swept to victory under Tony Blair.

The whole clip shows the quirks and essence of stiff upper lip British politics.

But if you can't take 7 minutes watch from about 5:00 - Portillo steps up at 5:30.

Anyway Portillo was back as an MP at a by-election in 1999 until he left politics in 2005 for a career as a TV presenter/pundit.
