JW Net and Politics

This site was and remains instrumental in assisting people that want to leave the JW's.

There has been political discussion here for some time now, a good couple of years and it makes me feel a little uneasy. I just opened up the site for the first time in some weeks, of the 10 posts being discussed, 4 were by the same poster, about politics, promoting their right wing beliefs.

This has been the trend for some time now, the same name behind a peppering of posts stirring the right v left of politics.

I remain forever grateful to the site and it's founders Simon & Angharad, I appreciate that Simon shares some of these these political beliefs. It would be a shame to see the site evolve from a place for JW freedom of thought and escape, to political squabbling, that the world is frankly tired of right now.

Just to clarify, politics is my hobby, whilst my friends read the football scores, I'm reading polling data. Whilst they watch game highlights, I'm watching depositions, speeches, debates. I devour both sides of the debate, I will watch as much Louder with Crowder as I do YT, I can stand neither of them. I have watched hours of Trump rallies, Putin speeches, North Korea documentaries, I am fascinated by the populist appeal of Trump, the magnetic charisma of Obama and the chess game mind of Putin ......and the car horn of Boris the clown.

In the context of JW's and politics I have much to say as I was suppressed from being political or voting by the JW's. I was a pioneer that loved getting home early on Thursday nights to watch UK politics shows on tv. I was addicted to radio political talk shows and pundits. My parents actually chastised me for my interests, being a JW.

Politics is a passion of mine..... it just feels awkwardly misplaced here, it isn't a debate, it's a promotion of western, right wing, American conservatism. The posts I have read have replies deleted or people shut down if they disagree. I bit my tongue about it and posted/frequented the site less. Now it seems to have become a common theme and feature of the site. The site feels like it has changed dramatically in the last 4 years,

The posts tend to appear to ask a genuine harmless question, then the post is a pro right wing, with heavy left, millennial, snowflake bashing. It's actually quite sad that someone feels the need to flood this site with such posts.

Forgive me if you disagree..... I post this in a hope we can change the course of this site between us all.

Snare x (not a libtard, commie, snowflake, millennial........ an economic and justice conservative with 'socialist' views on community and services)

Agreed. I’ve also noted that there are a lot of ‘general’ posts on the two areas ‘Jehovah’s Witnesses’ and ‘Watchtower Society/JW.org’. There are plenty of other areas more suitable for these (eg. News & World Events). Why do people not keep to the theme of the particular area? The two areas mentioned should surely only be used for topics relating to JW and the Society!

Absolutely agree, the older discussions on this website are easily the most valuable and informative intellectual discussions about jw beliefs anywhere on the internet, the trouble is that those leaving jw may miss out on the invaluable info because the newer posts are off subject, especially when on politics which may well be a trigger, the value of this site as an aid for properly waking up is huge and that should be the main topic for conversation

I feel the same way about Snopes. I devoured the sites' early articles, which were mostly debunking urban legends, because this helped me develop critical thinking skills as I was waking up. But now it's mostly so-called political fact-checking.

American politics holds zero interedt for me...so thats most of this site ignored. UK politics even less.

I do read human interest threads...leaving the cult etc.

......and the car horn of Boris the clown.

Don't call our elected leader a clown. Our Boris may not be perfect but he has done two great things for the UK:-

    • Saved us from Jeremy Corbyn & Diane Abbott.
    • Got (getting) us out of the EU.

All he needs to do now is load up all the illegal immigrants that keep arriving by dingy each day, and send them back to the EU. They can have the immigrants, we will have the fish.

Part of jokehovianism is the ban on all politics. They have zero right to have opinions on anything, except what is put in the washtowel rags. Part of the freedom we have now that we are no longer jokehovian witlesses is that to have political views, even if they differ from anyone else's. And, I view it a small price to pay to see tons of political threads that I can simply skip if I don't feel like looking at in order to have this freedom.

And, the way things are going, I will not be taking that freedom for granted. Once Komodo Dragon Harris is installed as president, that thing will quickly take that freedom away. It will quickly become like being a jokehovian again, this time with no outside world and with no ability to leave. And other tyrants in power will do the same, until we have no freedom anywhere in the world. Once this happens, or they simply take the whole Internet down so it becomes simply a tool to track us all and monitor our obedience, all of us will miss being able to have a political discussion even if it's not the one we "are supposed to".

I started a discussion on the same subject matter. Why can’t we stick to the topics that we came to this site in the first place.

There is nothing like the old topics that used to be posted here, and certainly nothing at all to compare with some of the old posters who used to post here.

There should be a "Political" sub on here like there is for other topics. I've been saying for years now that the political posts are honestly not in the spirit of this forum, shouldn't even be brought up, and are quite frankly scaring away any new prospective members of this forum. They're all flocking to the Ex-JW Reddit forum, where those posts are pretty much nuked from the start. I've been on here since 2002. I've been on Ex-JW Reddit forum about 3 years. Both have their pluses and minuses.
