Not murderers - careless slaveowners.
Once someone has subjected themselves to being a slave they are accepting all the consequences of such subjection, including death. That doesn't make it right, but slavery is a mindset, and if you obey a stupid order, you are responsible for the consequences. "I was just following orders" doesn't cut it since Nuremburg.
ie. Once, the Emperor of Rome, when in negotiations with the Parthians, ordered 100 of his legionaries to march off the roof of a building to impress upon the Parthian ambassador their abject loyalty to his command. If Bethel ordered 100 pioneers to march off a building, I bet they'd do it.
Ordering a slave to kill himself isn't really murder, but it sure is just as bad. It's a different crime, though.
