But wait a minute, didn't Jesus say: "I am he who searches the kidneys and hearts, and I will give to YOU individually according to YOUR deeds."? (Revelation 2:23) Oh, that's right, JWs don't put much stock in what Jesus says. They are a Jehovah-centric people. They're thinking of how Jehovah blamed the whole nation of Israel and let innocent Israelites die in battle because of the hidden sin of the one man Achan. (Joshua 7) Yes, they are worshipers of the OT God of Anthony Morris III.

Yes this happened in a neighbouring congregation in a town nearby some years ago. A pioneer and an elder had an affair and the congregation "lost Jehovah's spirit". Elders got transferred from other congregations like "Thunderbirds" to rescue the congregation. Don't think it worked ha ha cos Brains and Lady Penelope both got disfellowshipped.

'The teens in my congregation thought that masturbating would hinder the free-flow of holy spirit'

If this sentence doesn't scream cult then nothing does.

Some quotes about hindering spirit in the congregation: gross wrongdoing like pedophilia

    *** w12 2/15 p. 22 par. 14 Preserve the Positive Spirit of the Congregation ***

14 What if we become aware that someone is involved in a secret sin, perhaps abusing alcohol, viewing pornography, or living an immoral life? (Eph. 5:11, 12) Our turning a blind eye to gross wrongdoing can hinder the free flow of Jehovah’s holy spirit and threaten the peace of the entire congregation. (Gal. 5:19-23) Just as the early Christians in Corinth had to clear out badness, so today any corrupting influence must be kept out of the congregation in order to preserve its healthy, positive spirit. What can you do to contribute to the congregation’s peace?

*** w07 10/1 p. 30 par. 16 Deliverance From the Traps of the Birdcatcher ***When we allow personal differences to cause disunity, we have provided "the birdcatcher" a foothold. We could thus hinder the free flow of holy spirit in our personal lives as well as in the congregation. If that were to happen, Satan would be pleased because any disruption of the peace and unity of the congregation interferes with the preaching work.—Ephesians 4:27, 30-32.
*** w85 1/15 p. 27 "Kingdom Increase" Conventions—What Rich Spiritual Feasts! ***GuardAgainstDisgracefulFolly was the title of the second drama. Effectively portrayed were the bad consequences of Achan’s greed. (Joshua, chapter 7) The drama also showed how a similar incident of disgraceful folly could impede the flow of God’s holy spirit in a congregation. How this underscored the need to do our part to keep the organization clean while guarding our own hearts against temptation!
*** w63 7/1 p. 411 What Disfellowshiping Means ***What is the purpose of this cutting off from God’s congregation? The most important purpose is the preservation of Jehovah’s pure worship. No corrupting influence is allowed to remain. The one who practices wrongdoing must be taken out for the protection and purity of the congregation, since "a little leaven ferments the whole lump." (Gal. 5:9) If not cleared out, this corruption can block the free flow of Jehovah’s spirit to the entire congregation. Jehovah will not bless that which is impure, as was evidenced in the case of Achan. (Josh. 7:1-26) These serious derelictions can be compared to a cancer. If a body member is cancerous, the entire body is in danger. If necessary, the diseased member is amputated in order to save the rest of the body.

It also reminds me of the comments JW.FACTS wrote about in his experiences.

He had an elder friend in bethel who was committing adultery while in bethel....surely then, jehovahs spirit should have been blocked? But NO! Bethel always has gods spirit...right?

Block the free flow of holy spirit? I thought holy spirit was supposed to be the most powerful force in all the universe? How can anything block the flow of the most powerful force in all the universe? What kind of excuse for an Almighty God allows the actions of puny humans to thwart his power? What kind of excuse for a just God punishes a whole group for the hidden sins of an individual? What kind of petty God looks down from heaven and says:

"What! sis. Suzy Slut just slept with her fiance and no one else in the congregation knows about it?! That does it! I'm removing my spirit from that wicked congregation! They all deserve to suffer for her hidden, wicked sin!"
