It will be the first one to reach the pole through economics rather than war.

China is an enigma wrapped into a mystery.

A huge advantage that the US has is in our quality of life. This is a great place to live.

China does not seem interested in controlling and influencing the world other than countries directly around it's borders . If it does become the leading world power it will be more by default as other countries decline economically.

There are also more Chinese than anybody else.

if America falls so does china. China only has money because the US buys the cheap trinkets that china produces.

IMO China could help dethrone the USA but is not in a position to replace it (by just itself). Given that the US has maritime access to the two major oceans, I doubt that any other single nation could ever become as powerful economically as the US has been, at least not anytime soon.

I also agree from above that China does not seem to want the sort of global hegenemy that the US has had.

Ditto; I don't get that impression, either.

And even if they did, Michael Bay will save us : http://www.cracked.com/quick-fixes/4-reasons-michael-bay-secretly-saving-human-race/

No.....China will never replace America as the world power. Either one of two things will happen. America if felt threatened, would either defeat them in a military confrontation, or the world becomes untied under a world government. I think the latter will happen.

America is just too strong militarily with an aggressive & well armed population. Also, America is just too battle tested for China to just walk over us and claim top dog status with no contention. It was only 70 years ago that Japan was walking all over them. What great battles have they fought and won since? China has a strong economy because they don't have a high military budget, nor give out economic aid to others like the U.S. does.

I work with and know many Chinese people. I even have a Chinese internation student who lives with me. Chinese people love America. They are very peaceful, and have no asperations to be a world power the way the U.S. does it.

As The United States or America continues to export jobs, the wealth balnce must fall to outside countries. Already, China is a construction powerhouse around the globe. It should not be too many decades down the road before they get paid to ship ther equipment and their workers for US domestic construction. The situation with the poor in the US will worsen, til there might be extreme goals to eradicate those who are not in a top 10%. Communism might be seen as an answer once again. The world ahead is not one I would want to see. Maybe I'll go back to the Kingdom Hall and pray all this happens ... NOT.

China is facing an identity crisis. It's still "communist", with the claim that socialism and communism are the ultimate goal "for the good of the people", yet they are on a seriously aggressive capitalist path. The country is plagued by corruption and inequality. And the pollution over there is absolutely scary.

Right now, the protests in Hong Kong highlight the tension between the people that want a say in the government, while China is trying to maintain the complete authority of the communist party.
