    Lot's of great comments already.

"then elder we t into how 73% of kids cant get jobs after college and it isnt really an education but mostly partying."

I agree with Defianttruth. Tell the dude that you want your children to be able to present convincing evidence to their guidance counsellors that 73% of college graduates can't get jobs and that a college education is mostly partying. The statistic is likely based on something like "73% of college graduates do not get jobs in their field of study." I could easily get a degree in engineering but take a job in management, accounting, or sales. Does that mean that I'm unemployed? Nope. Does that mean that I could have gotten the management, accounting, or sales job with just a high school diploma? Nope. A degree in one area of study easily opens many other doors of opportunity. As far as partying, yes there may be some of that, but does he really think that MDs party for a decade then are given diplomas? Nope.

Interesting that he gave two examples of bethelites that had great careers afterward. I can name two that committed suicide after leaving bethel because they were "laid off" and completely unprepared for life in the real world.

I know several that learned how to be very good welders at bethel. Good for them if that's really what they wanted to do. But I know there was a brother on a welding crew at Bethel that suffered severe burns and after extensive grafts and therapy was reassigned to a different crew because he couldn't do that hard work anymore.

    Good advice already given.

Why are you having this "study" with an elder?

If you are trying to fade, simply tell him "I'll take it from here" and then get busy with life. You have to reduce your wife's exposure to the cult at every possible point.

The thing is the failings that the watchtower point to with higher ed--they standardize it to "this system" and school impracticality....but you get iut of school what u put in...like everything else in life--put in effort u can get results. The elder said to me: "With school in this system there is no guarantee, but with Jehovah you are guaranteed 100% to have his backing and to learn what u need to"......i then thought of the extremely poor bros and sisters whi struggle so much. And he talked of how pioneers are always the happiest he sees be ause they are doing Jehovahs will and yadda yadda....

Billy-- ethel that suffered severe burns and after extensive grafts and therapy was reassigned to a different crew because he couldn't do that hard work anymore.

now did he get his expenses paid or did he have to have his own insurance?

Just ask the many people like myself if going to bethel ensures you training for the future...

I went to a tech school for computers as well. I went to Bethel with that training and they knew about it. Instead they put me in cleaning and recycling and ultimatelu ended up in office furniture where I learned to clean panel walls and spend hours a day picking har out of desk chair wheels with 5 other brothers. It is a crap shoot. I left and went to school after Bethel and then I was able to support myself. This is the story of far more than 73% of Bethelites I know.

Just look at the ones you know I bet they arent using the skills they learned at Bethel unless they have managed to open a cleaning company.

"now did he get his expenses paid or did he have to have his own insurance?"

He was a regular bethelite, so they covered the expense of his recovery. He was still in bethel when I left. Not sure what's happened to him since. If he had been a commuter or temporary worker, I don't know how much they would have taken care of.

And what stops them from slaving at some job that is worthless? I heard of an account when one witless went to Beth Hell and wasted 30 years at the cheese factory, which that person hated most of all. Why would joke-hova want someone wasting 30 years doing what they most hate? So that, when they get moved, it is a blessing from that thing? Better a blessing from Satan by not enrolling in the first place--most people get stuck doing something useless. For every one that gets put where they can learn a trade, so many others waste their lives in mindless crap.

Not to mention, you break one of the rules, you are out with nothing. You may be a master computer programmer. But, they come in and they don't like one of the records in your collection. Or someone snitches on you and claims you have porn on your computer--mild porn at that. Or, show up late for family worship a few times, miss a few boasting sessions within a year, or fall short on field circus. Even something as harmless as Pokemon can be used to get you tossed out of Beth Hell with nothing. At least outside, you are not going to get fired for watching mild porn at home.
