factfinder, try listening to Jose Feliciano Feliz Navidad. I don't know how anyone can hear it and not have at least one corner of his/her mouth turn up.

With holidays, it's all a matter of perspective. Some cultures look for any reason to celebrate and to be festive. It helps life to be worth living to have something to look forward to, regularly. Think about how gray and dismal the long winter months can be. Having monthly celebrations to look forward to gets a lot of us through them. If you don't celebrate Christmas, then celebrate something else that day. In the USA, most of us get the day off. Throw a dinner party for goodness sake.

JOLIETTE- I feel thankful that I have non-Witness relatives- my wife, my wifes parents, my brother in law, my son and his girlfriend to enjoy Christmas with. I do have lots of JW relatives , but I look at it as THEIR loss , they are the ones missing out by being so superstitiously mind controlled into thinking everything outside the JW world is " bad " or " negative. " I agree that the commercialism sucks with Christmas- yet even though I'm NOT religious or a " Christian " at all - I do enjoy the extra time off from work, the great food with friends and family, and just time to relax and reflect on how much freedom of movement and freedom of mind I have gained in the last 10 years. So I feel it's mostly positive. I do miss my JW daughters- but I see the bigger picture of why they are the way they are- it's their loss. Perhaps in time they'll change and escape the Witnesses like I did. Their brother and me will be waiting with open arms when that time comes. Hang in there Joliette, we love ya my friend
