I've received a JW Convention invitation in my mailbox. Are they doing this to everyone, or am I being targeted as a prospective 'interested person'??
Since when did they print invitations for conventions??

They've done it for at least two years now, and they have a special campaign in the week or two before it starts, they are supposed, I think, to knock on your door, if you don't answer then stuff it in ther mail-box.
Most JW's I suspect, simply post 'em, without knockking, or if watched by another JW, knock "with a sponge".
I may be wrong, they may be told simply to deliver them to every house ?? I have received one two years running, despite being a DNC.
Great help actually, we know when we can go in to Town and not meet JDubs.

I wasn't at home. Maybe they knocked first. What a shame I missed them.
I guess I was just lucky last year.
Do they really imagine that people are going to make plans a couple of weeks beforehand to book accommodation and drive hundreds of kilometres to attend some 'convention' of a minor religious sect? Maybe it works a bit better if there's a convention locally.
I notice the quality of paper they use is getting cheaper as well.
And the theme is "God's Word Is Truth!", with just the "Truth" part on the front of the invitation followed by some inane leading questions. What a farce.
And inside it says "We warmly invite you..." Yeah... sure you do. Hypocrites.
They've been doing it for about 8 years. They have three weeks to cover the territory, and so instead of taking not-at-homes they leave one in your letterbox. We used to try shove them in the door crack but people complained as it advertised that no one was home.
I remember when I lived a 4 hour drive from the DC venue and we were doing this work, I said to my witnessing partner, "Seriously, are people in the territory going to drive four hours to [Town] to go to this?" Sister's reply: "They drive there to see the football, so they could drive there for this if they're interested..."
Helooooooo football is a bit different!! And you plan well in advance of your team's playing there to go...
I figured it was just something to get JWs busy and 'encourage' them to pioneer and boost hours. I always liked 'campaigns' because it was just "hi, here's your copy, goodbye..."

Indeed. This sort of thing is great for getting some easy time in for 'inactive' or 'irregular' JWs too. Which helps inflate JW 'growth' stats.

We had a letter read a couple of weeks ago that said nothing should ever be left at 'DNC' or 'No junk mail' addresses.
Apparently Bethel has had a lot of irate phone calls and letters about this.

It's very easy when you get chatting while witnessing to unwittingly walk into a DNC or leave something in the letterbox. It happened to me a few times.
Also, before the tract campaign there's always a big KM part on how we should use that month to pioneer or get inactive ones or kids into the ministry as it's an easy start. They have extra groups on outside of the usual times and try to get people to go out afternoons as well as just the morning. Some people also enjoy the challenge of seeing how many maps they get done, and friends from neighbouring congregations compare with each other. It really is a way to get the JWs excited about the d2d. It's a big game really.
More 'busy' work for the sheeple, gotta get them excited about something! Doing this 'campaign' is so close to being a paper run, its ridiculous.
Then you've got the pioneers who hoard heir invites, the Service Overseer who likes to ration them, and the people who only go out during these times coz its easy.
Oh the joy!
That's it in a nutshell, Winston.
Thanks for that inside info George. maybe they will leave us alone in future.
But I doubt it, although I am a DNC, I have received an actual visit fot the last three years or so to invite me to the Memorial.
Some local JW's are just too keen to see us go back, (which ain't never going to happen), I think primarily because they feel our continued rejection of the WT challenges their belief, they would feel more comfortable if we went back.
