False prophets or simply wrong expectations?

In a talk I heard recently, the brother said, even the apostles made mistakes about the end. He used the example of when they came and asked Jesus when these things would be and that Jesus said he didn't know, only the Father knows.

In Luke 19:11 and ACTS 1:6 Jesus was in the direct presence of these men who had asked.

And because of that, the Bible does not show where the Apostles taught anything wrong

    Big fail for the WTS

Were JWs predicting the end at some date? Yes. They predicted dates, even to the month (October 1914). They published these dates in their publications. They set expectations in talks. Thousands to millions of people heard these dates and acted on them according to what they heard.

" Calculating the Seven times " chart _____Reasoning from the scriptures book page 97

    The WTS clearly predicted the " Time ( 1914 ) and the season ( Fall ) "

Were JWs predicting the end at some date?Yes. Again, dates were set, published in print and verbally in talks. No one was asking Christ or God. They were incorrectly interpreting scriptures, setting dates, "prophecying" and saying it's as good as done because they were God's mouthpiece.

" Thus what is taught is not from men, but from Jehovah " ____Sept 15, 2010 WT para. 8 page 13

The brother went on to say that the apostles had wrong expections, but that didn't make them false prophets, so JWs are no more false prophets than they were.

The Bible only shows where the apostles imagined ( Luke 19:11 ) and questioned ( ACTS 1:6 ) about the kingdom

Like Hananiah the False prophet, The WTS taught false expectations

Then, he went on to say that JWs no more try to come up with a formula for trying to pinpoint the end, and that they now serve Jehovah out of love for Him, not because of a date.

WTS formula : Again, " Calculating the seven times chart " _____Reasoning book page 97

" Bible chronology also pinpointed in advanced the time when certain important events in the fulfillment of God's purpose would take place. "_____Reasoning from the Scriptures book page 93

Great thread Leaving_Quietly , Clearly that brother has no time to read the Literature he peddle

They provided dates more as a probability than a possibility. (bs from yb1980)

Kinda weird they didnt counsel the friends for living with a date in mind.

Nevertheless, it was the fault of the friends for believing and trusting too much their interpretations of scripture (according to them) Solution? Stop believing and trusting their interpretation of scripture.

Others think he was talking about the Roman persecution that was about to come on the Jews.

    mP:

To be fair the Romans were only keeping law and order. The jews were going about killing hundreds of thousands of non jews. Look it up. Im just trying to paint a balanced picture. The Romans were bad, and so were the jews back then.
