The Watchtower has pronounced the UN as being the disgusting thing because it is trying to bring about world peace instead of putting its faith in Jehovah to do that.

The Watchtower claims to be Jehovah's tool and itself attempts to unite the peoples of the world into a united organization going so far as to monitor and punish the behavior of individuals around the world.

How are the Watchtower's actions different from the United Nations actions?

It rarely destroys member nations that don't follow rules. Also affiliated ngo's are able to withdraw easily without reprisals. The UN is more tolerant.

When the UN turns on all religions, we will see who is tolerant.

One has the backing of Jehovah, the other doesn't.

The Watchtower acts at the prodding of the almighty, recognizing the place the Organization in the fulfillment of God's Divine Plan of the Ages. And the fulfillment of these prophecies pant to the end. It will not be late. The United Nations, the image of the beast, the disgusting thing that causes desolation, in deviance of this divine plan, attampts a premature unification of the human race. Their action is reminiscent of the action of Moses, Prophet of God, who himself was nurtured in Egypt, the antitypical desolate wasteland, and a lure for God's people to flock to in the time of distress. Moses exercised the deisre to rescue the children of Israel, a fine initiative, but one in opposition to what was then the divine plan. He was made to flee the land, waiting patiently for the prophetic word to issue forth for the glorious dawn of the delieverance of God's people.

Did Moses' action exactly picture the current stance of the United Nations? No! For while Moses, whom the scriptures gave the testimony of being meek, carried out his attempt at deliverance with a mild spirit, and quietly submitted when the first attempt at resolving issues failed, the United Nations, the image of the beast, carries on haughtily, spurning all warnings by the remnant of the anointed. The United Nations procalims itself as the Saviour of the human race, and our precious earth.

Recent pronouncements by the symbolic human head of this organization indicates a verbal attack on God's representatives. The head of the United Nations, himself a human of flesh and blood, failing to recognize the place of God's people in these momentuous times, voiced the gloved attack on the efforts being made by publishers of the good news. Whether this is a prelude to the much awaited all-out attack on true religion is yet to be seen. But be sure that the prophetic word pants to the end, hurrying to its fulfillment. It certainly will not be late.

It should by now be clear how clearly the efforts of God's worshippers differ clearly from the united efforts of human governments to bring about peace and security. The one is in accordance with the spoken word, the fulfillment of prophecy faithfully uttered, the other, a satanic diversion from the hope to restore what rightfully belongs to all lovers of righteousness and peace.

Carefully note, however, that God's people do not enact punishment on their fellow humans. Being lovers of peace, they try to live quietly, while accomplishing the greates educational work to be carried out in human history. This should be counted as a privilege, and undeserved kindness, since we do not live in such times when the punishment for workers of what is bad might be physical death, but we do wish that all those going into eternal destruction, nay, spiritual banishment, return to the fold of true worship according to the hope we share.

    Gozz:

You said "The head of the United Nations, himself a human of flesh and blood, failing to recognize the place of God's people in these momentuous times, voiced the gloved attack on the efforts being made by publishers of the good news." Can you give more information on this?

The UN, when accusations were made against it about the sexually exploitation of children, the UN called for a full investigation before the world press, and publicly stated a zero tollerence policy with regard to this.

The Watchtower.... well... You Know! We must not bring reproach to Jehovah's name. (aka. the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses)

It never ceases to amaze me how self-righteous the JW's are in regard to other people knowing their existence.

The head of the United Nations, himself a human of flesh and blood, failing to recognize the place of God's people in these momentuous times, voiced the gloved attack on the efforts being made by publishers of the good news.

What did you expect? Why do you think the UN would notice you, and not the mormons? Or the quakers? Why the heck would they even want to notice you? The UN don't take their time trying to find religions that might or might not preach the "truth". They have better things to do. This is politics, not religious affairs. These people are offering food and shelter when they can, not a possible hope for the future. Wake up, man!

AMarie, I shall carefully answer your question in full. One of the posters on this hostile board has the quote. If memory does not fail me, seven006. But I'll search. It is a statement that lovers of truth have been carefully analyzing, carefully discerning the disposistion of the image of the beast to the efforts of the preachers of good news.

Minefield, you are totally in error. There is importance in little things, just as the littel one has become a thousand. A nation seeking big signs, when will you recognize the importance of little things? The United Nations are readying themselves, taking a closer look at the activities of the true lovers of peace. You forget, too quickly, the relationship between religion and politics. How sad! Your information is wrong! Has the United Nations, in furthering the lies of Satan, not proclaimed the year of peace, and other respective years to celebrate their sopposed successes?

For one belonging to th Watchman Class, it is presumptuous of you, I say respectfully, to foofer counsel about waking up. You are the one who needs to be awaken from spiritual slumber. You may find good use of the powerful figurative binoculars provided by the humble ones calling (I am sure) at your door, bringing good news of better things to come. Ther camn be no greater lie than to imply that the representative of the beast takes no interest in the activiies of the anointed ones and their companions.

I've been reading Russell's original works - the Studies in the Scriptures. It's interesting that Russell thought the "disgusting thing" (or "abomination of desolation" - KJV) was the Papacy, an old Protestant interpretation. Also, Russell thought that the image of the beast was the Evangelical Alliance of Protestant demominations formed in 1846. Of course, Russell's "time of the end" was from 1799 to 1914.

It seems that once a religious group accepts the idea that the "end" is imminent, all the prophetic symbols have to be given meanings which correspond to present realities. So the "disgusting thing" or the "image" could be anything, as long as Armageddon is just around the corner!
