The second of eight Brooklyn Heights properties put up for sale last year by the Jehovah's Witnesses has sold for $4.1 million, just a month after the first of the properties was snapped up.

The two-story, 4,172-square-foot carriage house located at 165 Columbia Heights fetched just 9% less than its asking price, according to, which said the transaction closed on Jan. 10. Ellen Newman of The Corcoran Group was retained this summer by the Witnesses to market the four-bedroom, four-bathroom house and four others in Brooklyn Heights.

Ms. Newman confirmed the sale. She said the carriage house was bought by a couple from San Francisco, who plan to renovate the 112-year-old property,

A spokesman for the Witnesses said 165 Columbia Heights was used to house of members of their religious order and for parking. He declined to comment on the sale price or to reveal how much the Witnesses bought the property for nine years ago.

According to public record, the Witnesses had owned the house, which features arched windows and multiple skylights, since 2002. Like all the other properties owned by the Witnesses, the house was in pristine condition. The four other townhouses that Ms. Newman is marketing are not in contract, according to However, the asking price for the four-story, two-unit townhouse with a total of 3,040 square feet at 34 Orange St., was dropped 7% to $3.25 million in November, according to The asking price for the other properties—at 67 Remsen St., 76 Willow St. and 105 Willow St.—remain at $3.6 million each.

Last week, Massey Knakal Realty Services, the brokerage retained to sell three of the Witnesses' buildings, announced the sale of five-story, 20-unit 50 Orange St. for $7.1 million and noted that sale contracts for the two other properties at 183 Columbia Heights and 161 Columbia Heights in the neighborhood had been sent out.

The Jehovah's Witnesses, who have called Brooklyn their home since 1909, are the largest landlord in the Brooklyn Heights area. The group has accumulated 34 properties totaling 3.2 million square feet over the course of decades and created a self-sustaining community in the Brooklyn area.

More than likely they are dumping real estate before their assets are frozen.

  • thetrueone

More than likely they're selling off their properties because they are moving a majority of their operations out of Brooklyn completely.

The WTS. knows well the worth of the properties they have in Brooklyn.

Thats partially the reason they are moving their operations out, the other reason is they want to build newer and better

facilities such as in Wakill and elsewhere.

Your over sensationalizing and bullshitting once again Rick.

This moving out of Brooklyn has nothing to do with perceived impending law suits.

Integrity is a concept of consistency of actions, values, methods, measures, principles, expectations, and outcomes. In ethics, integrity is regarded as the honesty and truthfulness or accuracy of one's actions. Integrity can be regarded as the opposite of hypocrisy , [1] in that it regards internal consistency as a virtue, and suggests that parties holding apparently conflicting values should account for the discrepancy or alter their beliefs.

The word "integrity" stems from the Latin adjective integer (whole, complete). [2] In this context, integrity is the inner sense of "wholeness" deriving from qualities such as honesty and consistency of character . As such, one may judge that others "have integrity" to the extent that they act according to the values, beliefs and principles they claim to hold.

I hope that carriage house did not contain the closet that Johnny the Bethelite liked to phone in from.

Really they owned this? What for?

  • leavingwt

There was a large guest room on the second floor.

  • Iamallcool

I was told it was for visiting branch members, etc....

  • thetrueone

It would be a logical assumption that visiting branch members were treated with a bit more respect and preference

    than working every day Bethelites.

You could also assume that these individuals probably had one of the WTS. cars at their availability as well.

And you could probably assume that these visiting Branch officials had their airline ticket paid for by the WTS. to

HQ , there and back as well.

More than likely they are dumping real estate before their assets are frozen.

It was a good informational opening post. Why did you have to go there, Rick? Why did you have to do your P.T.Barnum show? Nothing whatsoever indicates that their assets are close to being frozen in the United States. I am sure you can clear it up if we just call in.

I notice it was an afterthought in a second post, so even you considered not going there, then you remembered your mantra- "The show must go on.

I heard Fake Johnny was doing the show from the closet in that property (from sir82 above), so now he will have to hide under the sink in the Bethel kitchen.

Another case of Rick the Bullshitter, voicing false information in his endeavored attempts to darken the image of the WTS.

I am going to nominate Rick for the biggest JW apostate bullshitter of the year award in a leading role.

    Rick you deserve this

Just a passing thought, it is known that Rick still professes to be a Christian, so one should consider that

he might be using his free redemption card to sin ( Bullshit ) Jesus redeems bullshit, at least that's what I read in the bible

  • Iamallcool

(clapping hands) About time Rick got that beautiful gold trophy that he deserves!

  • elderelite

Rick, not to critizie, but if their assets were going to be frozen, wouldnt that include the money from this sale...? Just sayin....

I think the sub point in the article is the most inportant... 50 orange got sold!!! That place was dump!!!!

  • thetrueone

A more truthful statement would be that the WTS. renovated many of their properties in Brooklyn by using their members as free labor,

knowing well that this would make the organization seem good and advantageous in the community, but also realizing that in doing so

it would increase the value of those properties in the future. They were right. From a business perspective the WTS. selling out and

moving on to other areas makes all the logical sense.

Besides the WTS. has been selling and proselyting bullshit for over a century from the same place.

That being the case it would makes all probable sense for the leaders of this organization to remove themselves

to a more obscure location, with less public attention draw upon them.

Also don't be too surprised if the Awake and Watchtower magazines take on a new name.

The WTS. did that once before remember.

  • thetrueone

Were taking it relatively piece at a time, as it comes.

There is little doubt or debate that this bit of info presented by Rick the Bullshitter is just that pure premeditated bullshit.

    I'm beginning to think he's a bit of a nut-bar.
