KRISTI KAY- If you don't believe this stuff, why are you going to the kingdom hall ? Just curious. The mind control tactics the WT society use are VERY strong so please be careful that your mind isn't taken over by these controlling tactics. If you get a chance to read Steve Hassan's " Combatting Cult Mind Control " and his " Releasing the Bonds- Empowering People to Think For Themselves " - you will understand my concern for you. We might THINK we won't get manipulated- but's it's easier than you think to fall under the spell of mind control
Tried to end my "bible" study, ended up agreeing to go to the Kingdom Hall instead!!!

Ooooo!! I like Bohm's approach...
"So how do I deal with that scepticism? First and foremost by listening carefully to what you have to say and what your magazines teach, but this cannot stand alone.
Let me give you an example. Last year I went out to buy a new TV/Car/Cellphone/whatever, and the first model I found was a Samsung A540 which looked really good. But nevertheless Ii googled "samsung A540" on the internet, and I found a customer with a less-than-favorable review. So I tried to research the details he was critical about from other sources ..."
Then, further on, he advises that you ask:
"One thing I kept reading that worried me, is that many say witnesses will not read critical literature, but only consider what they have written themselves. Is that true? ..."
This is an EXCELLENT approach. Personally, if I were in your shoes, I'd use the example that one has the opportunity to research most types of purchases, and that a WISE person WILL research said purchases, as such research can save a great deal of money; prevent inconvenience and frustration, and prevent one from falling prey to con artists and dishonest merchants. (I use "Consumer Reports", the "Lemon" book, and other consumer information sources, myself...)
How much more vital [JW buzzword, sorry 'bout that...] it is to FULLY research issues that can have a life-affecting impact. One CANNOT expect to make an informed decision based on only ONE source, no matter how "reliable" that source claims to be...
[In my opinion, this applies not only to the Jehovah's Witnesses, but also to the bible itself - but that's just me...]
Then you might ask her to study some really OLD Watchtower literature with you...
I've stated this on other threads; it's actually pretty easy to obtain older JW literature. In the process of rebuilding my library, I've already picked up a couple of 100+ year-old JW books; didn't cost that much, either... For that matter, you could actually ask her if you two could review some of the OLDEST books located in the Kingdom Hall, and compare them with current JW beliefs...
Don't be surprised if she turns you down. That might end her association with you, right there. You will become a person who - in their perception - asks too many embarrassing questions...
Which should end her attempts to associate with and manipulate you.
Or, it might cause her to become curious enough to do a little independent research herself...

A friend of mine tells me her brother, an athiest with no knowledge of the WT, had two JW guys keep his 'Bible Study' going until they left the religion.
It took a long time.
Have fun with it. You might do some good.
Cheers

Hello KristiKay, I have exactly the same situation, I ended up going along partly to see what it was like, but especially to SHUT THEM UP. They're like the Borg from Star Trek, "You will be assimilated, resistance is futile...". Now I like to play games with them, see what jokes I can get away with, what wisecracks I can slip in, especially when they don't realise what I'm up to. Most of them are good, sincere people, but my god are they relentless or what? I think in time they might just get bored with me not wanting to join their collective and give up on me. watch this space...

Perhaps this was already suggested. Why not tell your jw that you'll go to her hall if she goes to some churches w you? That's fair, isn't it?

Hi Mouthy, Yan and Bohm, thanks for welcoming me. I have been spying on this site for about a month. When I first ran in to it I was so brainwashed that i was immediately disgusted! Then we ran in to the blood policy AGAN and had to do my research, cause Im' not risking my or my sons's lives for any printed info ...good thing, cause finally I am free. The blood topic really gets on my nerves, because during my years of inactivity (well I really haven't been active since I was 18, when I plain dropped out) I once required 4 transfusions in one go to save my life. My mum, the loving JW , said that it would have been better if I had died. Bet she was going to care for my one-week old baby!! (see i was also a solo mum so double sinner by her standards. I wonder if she thought that if I died for NOT accepting a blood transfusion, I was automatically forgiven for the fornication??? Don't think so ).
Krista please flip out before your family turns into a freak-show like my mum made us be, even after we left the borg. The show went on until her death (she avoide speaking on the phone with me for most of the last three years of her life). I still loved her though, so outta notalgia for her I almost got sucked in later!! It is catchy and unless someone braves up to look for the" Apostate" websites or do their own research. your lot will remain trapped or divided.

If any of you "newbies" need more proof that the W.T. is a manmade organization that is constantly changing, look up two Watchtower articles.
Watchtower 1967....November 15, pages 702-704...Questions from readers.
Watchtower 1980 ... March 15, page 31...Questions from readers.
In 1967, that article says organ transplants are cannibalistic, and are forbidden.
The 1980 article completely overturns this directive by saying there is nothing scriptural about organ transplants, so it is up to the individual whether that person has one and with no disciplinary action required if it is done. If you have the 2004 W.T. cd library, you'll find BOTH articles on the same page!
If that doesn't convince you that the Watchtower Org isn't manmade, then nothing will. I wonder how many people lost their sight or an organ during 1967 to 1980, when this directive was reversed?

As a new arrival on Planet of the Witlesses, there's a lot I just don't get. How the sheol are you supposed to do a transplant without blood? It's not as if you can use a drip tray and pour it back in or anything. Is this a prime example of JW doublethink, or just not thinking at all?
