My favorite chapter in the old book was "Imitate Jehovah, the shepherd and overseer of our souls"

It dealt with the loving ways Jehovah dealt with mankind and gave examples of how elders could do the same. Verry good advice. Bad thing is I dont ever remember studying it as a body.

We only studied the Judicial stuff. Too bad.

Now the new book looks dark. Not one mention of Jehovah, Jesus, love, or imitating them in any way in the chapter titles.

    Oh boy

Billy the ex bethelite: Elders are getting dumber and many of them were interpreting the text of the old book in ways that "mother" didn't intend. So they had to dumb it down and make it more direct. The next edition will be at the level of "Fun with Dick and Jane... porneia drawings included"

    Very true!

I am convinced that the org Now is being run by those who would be considered week in the past. Y'no those who couldn't even read the subheading at the BS are now elders.

I'll ALWAYS remember what my Wiccan friend mentioned to me....

She said something to the effect of, "most people read the bible, the New Testament, and they think those parables of the 'sheep and the shepherd' are sooooo touching and demonstrative of the love "god" and "his son" have, for them....

    But they forget...

In real life - ESPECIALLY in ancient Israel - the shepherd watched the flock for HIS benefit, NOT for the benefit of the sheep..."

In other words: Lambchops, mutton, sheepskin cloaks, wool sheared for garments...

    Words to consider...

Thank you for this one, Ziddy! I will certainly remember this one, myself...!

UNDERCOVER- Good thread. Good idea on your part to show these differences. It is striking. To me- It seems this new book dwells MOSTLY on JC matters to the 10th degree - almost to the point of ridiculousness. Whereas the old elders book dealt with a wider range of subjects dealing with the ministry work, etc. In the old book- there was even a chapter on love ! Imagine that.

As Steve Hassan says - Mind control cults get more restrictive and paranoid with their control measures over members when they see people leaving or the foundation of the cult or belief system starts falling apart. I think we are seeing this high control, paranoid behavior in this information printed by the WT society. Most everything deals with how to control the JW members and discipline them . Which is what cults do more of when they feel threatened or nervous. Good. Let's make them more nervous

Baba Yaga - glad you liked that!! I had a "why the heck didn't I see that earlier!" moment, when my friend said that....
