Bible CONTRADICTIONS (Post Yours Here!) -- And Yahweh is a "Monster"!

No need to go beyond the first two chapters of Genesis.

Chap 2 contradicts Chap 1 on the order of creation. Bible "accuracy" just goes downhill from there.

Lots of contradictions, if you're reading it as literal truth. Allegorically, there is a far different message. For sure, the first 11 chapters of Genesis are not to be taken as literal reporting. Just my 2c.

This is one of my favorites:

The WT is constantly quoting this verse (Psalm 11:5):

5 The LORD examines the righteous,
but the wicked [b] and those who love violence
    his soul hates.

They use it to justify their anti-R-rated movie, anti-video games, anti-boxing, anti-whatever stance.

For some reason though, the succeeding verse never gets quoted quite so much (Psalm 11:6):

On the wicked he will rain

    fiery coals and burning sulfur;

a scorching wind will be their lot.

    I just find that hysterical:

"God hates violence - in fact he hates it so much that he will mutilate, torture, and burn to death so their eyeballs melt, anyone who practices violence".

Thank you for all your comments so far!

But come on guys! There are many more "Contradictions" that skeptics always like to bring up!

For example, here is one I remember:

    * Isaiah 7:14 was originally a prophecy that was fulfilled in Isaiah's day, so why does Matthew claim it was fulfilled in Jesus?

I will get around to reviewing and attempting to answer all of the ones that have been brought up as soon as possible.

You can even "cheat" and post your favorites from SkepticsAnnotatedBible.com

    Terry,

Thank you for that big list!

People who defend "Holy Scripture" by acknowledging it is literally inaccurate but allegorically correct are playing mind games.

Literal accuracy or inaccuracy is possible to scrutinze. Allegorical accuracy or inaccuracy is impossible to scrutinize. It's like picking up ten blocks of soap in nothing but your hands in a wet and slippery shower cubicle: Everything slips and slides and you drop more than you pick up.

Terry is as blind as he was when he was a jw. Everything on his list was from anothers website. He shows that he cannot think for himself. He has no respect in any other world view than his own. How sad! Even though you will come back and insult me, I feel sorry for you Terry. What a miserable life you must have to not have any hope or belief in something bigger than yourself. RIP Terry.

steve2 - correctness comes not into it. Allegorical stories are neither true nor false - they are metaphors (implied comparisons); matters of thought. I have no problem scrutinizing an allegory; your slippery soap one was good but not apropos (in my view!)

Brotherdan, of course you are fully entitled to disagree with Terry - that's what I like about this forum: A good exchange of ideas. But most of your comments to Terry are personal and derogatory of him. You sincerely believe that belief in something bigger than oneself is the way to go. Fair enough. So do I. But there's no need to make a personal putdown of someone who may have a different point of view.
