You are so fortunate to get out of the cult in time to have a life, and with your hubby!

Thank you for sharing. You expressed yourself very well in vivid language.

I wasn't born in, but spent over 30 years of my life in. Since I came in as a young adult, all my friends were JWs.

The freedom you now have may be bittersweet if your family shuns you. I hope this doesn't happen.

Excellent post and the terms you used.

We really had a good time out in the ministry. Driving around in our parents' cars, listening to the music of the 80s was a blast. Life was good.

Hey were you in my pioneer group?

The Watchtower life is one big guilt trip and never-ending treadmill of service to the organization.

    You're never good enough.

    You've never done enough.

And the GB calls this "the good news of Jehovah's kingdom..."

How different than the words of Jesus at Matthew 11:28: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

Ding - good point. I remember sitting in a meeting once and realizing how tiring it all was. And it is service "to the organization". I really thought I was sacrificing for something greater than myself. WRONG!

Great story! I wonder if I was at Bethel the same time as you were.
