This and That - 10 March 2010, 9:11 AM </form> Jehovah’s Witnesses offer free Bible instruction in English Santo Domingo – There is now help available for English speakers with a spiritual inclination here in Santo Domingo. Starting January 3, 2010 and continuing every Sunday thereafter, Christian meetings are held in English at the “Salon del Reino de los Testigos de Jehová,” #33 Avenida Francia on the corner of Galvan, in the Gascue sector of Santo Domingo.

Beginning promptly at 7:30 pm the congregated English speakers will listen to a 30-minute Bible lecture. Each week a Bible subject is delivered in a lively discourse that helps the audience understand how to apply Bible principles in their life. All in attendance are encouraged to follow along with the scriptures in their personal copy of the Bible. If one does not have a Bible, one can be obtained at these meetings on a donation basis. The lecture is followed by a group study of a specific Bible theme. Afterwards all are encouraged to associate with one another.

There is never a “passing of the plate” for donations as is common in many churches. Each week will feature a different lecture theme by various English speakers from the Dominican Republic, United States, Canada and elsewhere.

At the same location, there is also a 30-minute English Bible Study group every Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM. Starting March 1, the book “Come Be My Follower” (which teaches lessons from Jesus’ life and ministry) will be considered in a question-and-answer format. This meeting is followed by a school where one learns to be a better teacher of the “Good News.” Enrollment in this school is voluntary and is open to all regular attendees.

There are also English meetings in Santiago and Puerto Plata. In addition to the English meetings, there are established meetings for Bible instruction in Spanish, Creole, and American Sign Language (ASL) as well as Chinese, all at various times and locations throughout the capital. Free Personal Bible Studies are also offered and can be arranged before or after any meeting or by calling the number below.

All who are interested in learning more about the Bible are cordially invited to attend this continuing series of English Public Lectures here in the Dominican Republic on Sundays at 7:30pm throughout 2010 and are also invited to a special event on March 30th at 6:30pm – the memorial of Christ’s death. Please bring your personal copy of the Bible if you have one. Doors open 20 minutes before all meetings and early arrival is recommended since all meetings start on time and seating is limited.

For directions or further information, contact one of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 809-978-4142.

True. The timely donation guilt trip reminders from the platform will suffice.

And here is the text book for the classes:

1967 "Learn to Read and Write"

"After your teaching of the materlal in the booklet is finished,

it would be good to have the class continue on reading some of

the Society's publications that they will be using in field service.

such as "This Good News of the Kingdom," or, perhaps, several

selected chapters from the Paradise book. Finally, practice read-

ing Watchtower paragraphs, discussing with the class new words

and the meaning of the material."

You notice: "...Society's publications that they will be using in field service."

    How wonderful!!

Used to sit in on a study when the learning of English took more way more time than the learning of bible truths. Great cup of tea - warm house in a nice neighbourhood - guaranteed 1.5 hours. He was a great bloke - recommended getting married although his wife was in another country - said she was a really fine woman - cost over 50 camels - literally. I think we that translated that as "pretty fit" in English?

This is a scam. They also have a reading program for people that wish to learn to read. The catch is that you will be taught to read only what you need in order to become a witless. And then pressured into becoming one.
