So why ARE women allowed to speak at congregation meetings?

The apostle Paul said that women should be silent in congregation meetings and not flap their traps. If they need to talk about something, they can talk about it with their husband when they get home.

So why does the WBTS pick and choose which verses they apply and which they do not? Women are supposed to wear head coverings (which always seemed stupid to me, even as a child). But they are not supposed to be speaking in meetings. They are allowed to give talks (with partners) and speak in the meetings.

Anybody have an explanation for this?

The GB pick and choose the parts of the Bible that fit (or they made fit) with their ideas. So, that's why it doesn't make sense when you read the Bible.

About that Bible passage, I think that was a letter Paul wrote to correct and specific situation in that congregation. It doesn't apply today. Otherwise, we should be allowed to have slaves like they had then.

I always thought it was strange that they could be on stage and talk with a partner from whom the audience would learn something.

I thought they weren't supposed to teach anything to anyone, but you see even elders and other men taking notes of what the women are saying on stage.

So, what is the point of having them talk to another person vs. having them face the congregation?

    Learning still takes place.

Head coverings are the silliest things I ever heard of outside of style and winter.

Oooh! That would be nice. I always wanted my own Canadian slave. You know, someone I could FORCE to stand around and be polite.

You musta been in one of those liberal KH.
At our hall we kept our women in subjection. We told them in no uncertain terms like Paul did that women were made to be seen and not heard.

I am a woman, and thought I read that scripture regarding women remaining silent in the church, I always wondered then WHY God refers to the Church as a WOMAN, bride of Christ?

Seems like nothing new to me. My opinion is that this is an organization that started out as
a good old boys' club run by men, but so many more women joined than men. Women drag
their men to the meeting, often. (Sorry, but the more balanced men, known as weak JW's,
would miss many meetings and watch football.)

So the WTS allows participation so the women want to keep coming back. I could imagine that
many women would get tired of hearing all the men spout their so-called knowledge at the WT
study week after week and they would stop coming. If they stopped coming, their husbands would
watch football and stop coming. Nobody but the hardcores would be there.

How not to make friends with the female posters

    not flap their traps.

but if the women did not answer up, who would? The men say nothing much...Three cheers for the ladies who carry the show

    You just try stopping them...!.

Actually the most important speaking was talking about Jesus and the kingdom to nonbelievers. But the WTS has always delegated that to "lowly" women and made the so-called "teaching" in the congregation of more importance.
