    Hi Lee Elder!
It is nice to meet you here...still working on some translations!

    About this topic:

I agree that there is power in the hands of so-called apostates, dissidents, whatsoever.

Some while after an article about WTBTS relations to black people, quotes of old magazines and the statement that there never was a black member of GB the 1st one (S. Herd) get into it...

If there where no "us" the Watchtower would still be with DPI.

Some changes in the blood-doctrine seem to be due to the efforts of AJWRB.

And woulod there be a new version of the flock-book without the Observer??

Health Insurance for bethel workers is still available since an apostate couple left bethel in Germany and went to court against the Watchtower.

    THIS LIST COULD BE ENDLESS!!

There is no new version of this one, my friend, it is still the very same which has had its copyright violated.

    once spoke Isis to Osiris:
Egypt is in an ugly crisis
thats why we expand the templehouse
to change it to a joyful house

bring bricks an marble, also wood
the outfit must be very good
and take the women, virgins young
that they sell their hymen along

the money take for our nation
and sometimes we do make vacation
we build egypt to be great
all other things then will fade

its great this story from the past
until today it seems to last
    the priests give order
    ask for gold
to settle this some lies are told

the lie from a present light machine
that gives the light without benzine
its light that makes all upside down
it's light like from an evil clown

take glasses guys and safe your eyes
    deny the priests
    and their okay
show conscience, faith and be standfast
the truly one will have a past

no past means no future - in retrospective thinking

a poem in regard to the change

    >>Would Bethel still be the miserable sweatshop it was in
the '70's - unless "unfaithful" brothers created such
a crisis that change had to be made?

Can you please elaborate? I haven't heard this one.

Well, Tweetie, this is one of those untold stories about the
    inner workings of the organization.

Back in the 70's, the War in Vietnam was in full force. Many
brothers had to sweat and pray that they would get a 4D deferment
from the draftboard - or risk going to prison because of refusing
military service. King Knorr the First (and last, thank God)
endlessly ranted about various sexual obsessions (masturbation,
fornication, porn, oh my!). You'd have to listen to this nonsense
five mornings a week, most of the time. In addition, you were
ceaselessly reminded that you had promised to stay four full years
and work hard at the the Society's disposal. Often this meant
long hours in an un- airconditioned factory doing monotonous
labor in a highly monitored environment. Needless to say, they
developed severe morale problems - many brothers left before
their four year stint was up - risking prison due to the draft.
Younger brothers used to annoy the overseers (and Knorr) by
referring to their "Bethel career" in terms that suggested a
prison sentence (example: "how long you been here? - "two years,
three months, and eight days"). Things got worse and worse -
with theft, apostasy and the development of deeply cynical, hostile
attitudes especially in the bindery. Three former circuit overseers
at Bethel were appointed to investigate why so few young brothers
wanted to come to Bethel - they put together a pile of testimony
so negative that they were quietly branded as rebels (thanks,
Fred Franz). They also ran into trouble with newly baptized brothers
who came in with a heavy history of drug use.

Finally, they had to relent on the four year requirement and
ease up on the brothers. Even with this, if you read the KM
on Bethel Service and compare it with the past, you can see
how they compomised out of naked necessity - you don't have
to pioneer and only need to be baptized 6 months! I doubt they're
getting what they want for slave labor these days.

In summary, the experience was highly instructive because it
taught me, first hand, just how fanatical the Society can be
in supporting a policy whose painful results and flaws were
obvious to everyone - except for a few ivory tower leaders
and the sycophants who orbited around them.

And since many years have past, who do you think the leaders
are at present? The very same toadies who supported the mess!

And that's the way things work, in theocracy-land

I'd like to think somehow that God was with us a little

Absolutely, Metatron! I likened us in another thread a while back to a sort of watchdog group. I'm glad you ennumerated the changes that have been brought about. These changes would never have even crossed the minds of the powers that be if not for dissenters. Amnesty International stands up with mere words from ordinary world citizens against the harshest regimes--and they respond. My mother (who's still a witness) told me not too long ago, somewhat cautiously, "you know, the brothers monitor those internet sites." And all I could think and said was "good, I love the thought of speaking for those who have no voices--esp the women and children who are still in". I think secretly she is proud of me. I shudder to think of what this religion would do if given the right political environment in which to operate. That's another reason the UN thing kind of chilled me (their cozying up to world powers--it's a tad scary what some would do with a little clout and live ammunition to back them).
In fact, if I still believed in the bible, I'd take it a step further than watchdog group. I'd say we're God's spokespeople. Look at all the prophets who stood up to the religious status quo OUT OF THEIR OWN RANKS and called the pharisees on their B.S. Jesus was the biggest religious dissident the Jews ever saw. But the Jews of his time simply could not admit to even minute mistakes on their part.
Anyway, I don't believe. But if I did...
    Pax,
    B.

Kudos to you Met, you've hit the nail on the head on this one. In fact, I was gonna start a thread on this myself. New light, change in organizational procedures, Bethel adjustments; MOST of that has been instituted by those deemed as dissenters.

Items like the "1914 generation" and etc., was already started by many of the friends who used to have those "maverick" watchtower/bible studies in Bethel rooms back in the late 70's/early 80's. That "new light" originated from that. Isn't that something....Apostates are usually the ones to cause new light to shine.

I don't think any one should get too exciited .. I think it's more like apostates keep the Brooklyn overlords sneeky than keep the bastards honest.

Reform the WBTS? Yeah, like that'll set the people free ... NOT!
