I just wonder because with the stresses of earning a living, taking care of immediate family, and getting in little free time that is available, why would anyone want to take on this extra job at no charge, answer to more bosses, and be submited to endless critisizing behind your back for decisions. It just seems crazy.

Why is it so many Men agree to take on the Position of an Elder?

So many dont, there is a crisis of not enough men taking the lead right now.

    1. Power
    2. Prestige
    3. "its good to be a prince in the new world"
    4. False sense of love for others
    5. False sense of love for god

Power....where else can a window washer or janitor become a middle manager within a large multinational publishing company?

Now, many men agree with you. They don't want the responsibility.

But, in the past, and for some today, the prestige, the power.
Where else can you go from lowly window washer to overseer in
    such a short time?

There is also the reason that many of us did it- We thought that
we were serving the Sovereign of the Universe, that the men that
asked us to serve were that Sovereign's agents, that it would
bring Holy Spirit to accept and deny that spirit to refuse.

    Approval.

Many people feel they need external approval as proof that God loves them.

It is a nice feeling to be a window washer or janitor and be told God is using you and has a purpose for you.

Whatever the reasons they originally accept the position, many step down because the stress is too great. I've been in several congregations where the "used to be elders" outnumbered the actual ones.

Well it's a status symbol in the JW world. Young men will seek out MS and Elder positions because it will make them a better "catch" for the single sisters.

Okay, okay. But I know why they AGREE to It.

But oh boy, it will be amusing to see the replies.
