And Suddenly I Understand the Muslim "Cartoon" Riots

I read that beliefs were difficult to change because they are from the same part of the brain where we "just know that our car is parked in the garage"... We are secure in that "belief" and feel safe.

This helps explain why there are so many threads on the forum along the lines of "Why can't my brain-dead parents/spouse/kids see the truth-about-the-truth when it's so freakin' obvious?"

    They just can't go there.

The lesson to be learned is, be gracious but firm. They'll either "get" it in time, or they won't. It's not about winning arguments.

The west seems to march on and make huge progress. The Soviet Union/Russia made some remarkable advances being the first in space, the 2 nd in nuclear technology, the first to put a man in space etc. It would only be a person with half a brain cell to see that India and China are going to be huge world powers in the next 50 years and this century will belong to them. Europe has enlarged and will still be a force. Japan is a huge economic force. Israel/Jews are a remarkably talented race – Einstein/Heisenberg etc and others.

So despite all the huge resources of oil , where does it leave the Muslim world – way behind. It must be so humiliating for them. Allah has not blessed them for being the one true religion. So yes they are in a fight for survival and denial is a survival mechanism as is fight/flight.

Muslims have a huge amount to contribute –if only they could have a Martin Luther and him/her survive long enough without a Fatwah being issued against him/her. If only they could empower their females. Without female empowerment you are automatically losing 50% of your potential contribution.

That little comment I posted here about the brain and the comments Merry referred to, are just a small part of trying to understand the hatred and violence showing up in the Muslim world.

I think the main cause is the constant recalling of past events of evil caused by both Christianity and Islam and many secretive groups, by rabid religious leaders that base their insane demands on old tribal teachings of war and killing to meet the demands of a non existant God created in the minds of insane leaders.

    Hi Mary,
I made the cult connection between Muslims and JWs like you did and the Libs called me a bigot. Go figure, eh?

    Hey Abaddon,
Your 'tooth fairies', the Communist leaders like Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, etc have killed hundreds of millions, mostly THEIR OWN PEOPLE. Then you have the equally lovable National Socialists in Germany that used evolution to justify their own 'survival of the fittest' attempt when they killed millions more. It seems that religion is NOT the problem. It is a symptom of the human condition: degenerate from what it was intended to be!

I've actually tried to make that same point myself, Rex, but not too sure how well it came across...

    Hi Mary,
I was surprised when this first happened. I pointed out the similarities between various cults including Islam and some people immediately accused me bigotry. They are all too happy to expose the Watchtower yet turn a blind eye to the Islamists. I think it is more of an anti-Christian bias than anything else. "Islam opposes Christianity therefore Islam is an ally." All of the people who castigate the U.S. do the same thing. I would just like to see some of the left leaners go and live in one of the Islamic societies. I believe that parts of Europe are less than twenty years from that with all of the immigration and breeding of Islamists going on. Europe has not moral entity like Christianity to blunt the invasion. Their secularism will be vanquished just like Communism did to the eastern bloc countries.

This reminds me of Jonathon Swift's observation.

That you can not reason someone out of a position he has not been reasoned into.

Merry I like the fact that you are trying to understand people and that is a very good thing to do. You and I and most here need to understand how people think and then remember how their reaction is primal. Like your past posts you are struggling to understand your mom. I am trying to understand my mom. The acupuncturist is trying to understand his wife. We need to be do this so we don't start to hate them. Hate destroys good. The cartoons started what was all ready in minds of the people that is their primal instincts to survive when they are threatened. The Muslim world feels threatened and so when an animal that is threatened it reacts violently.
