My sister and I were just talking about this very topic this morning. When Jesus supposedly chose the Watchtower Society as the Faithful and Discreet Slave in 1918, no one got disfellowshiped for anything! How is it that now, in 2012, our disfellowshipping policy is used as proof that they are God's earthly visable organisation, in that they "keep the congregation clean?"

I guess Jesus just let everybody slide for the first 26 years!!!

This is very interesting. One aspect that the WT does not deem worthy of mentioning is that Paul wrote to congregations that he formed - and Romans. He knew the individuals. It was not advice for all time in all places. The correspondence and even the gossip that caused him to write a reply are not available. The Jerusalem group prob. would have ignored his advice as they ignored his gospel.

There is a big difference between actually knowing local geography, political circumstances, and the members of the church vs. writng to a universal church.

Well, I believe now more than ever before that the Watchtower religion of Jehovah's Witnesses is nothing but a fraud.

Thanks for posting, an interesting historical document. You can see how the D F / Shunning thing is developing, also how the control from the "Theocratoc Organization" is getting more and more intrusive and strong, the individual Congregations were losing the last vestige of autonomy in any area at this time.

Do I detect the hand of freddie Franz in this ? Rutherford was dead by this time if memory serves, so did Freddie start the whole horrid thing off ?

It would fit with the man's cold hard attitude to other humans. By 1952 Knorr was definately totally in thrall to Freddie, so the further evolution of the terrible DFing practice was definately down to Freddie, backed by the equally cold and heartless Knorr.

Asking questions, thinking for yourself is absolutely taboo. Maybe it varies from congregation to congregation.

It's ironic that this religious group tries to entice people into it by a process they call "reasoning" though it is anything but. A nearby congregation has apparently intelligent people who nonetheless will spout the party line.

However, in this local congregation, there comes a point where thinking for oneself...the very means they pretended to use in those early "Bible Teach" sessions....becomes a reason for deciding a person cannot yet become a JW. In other words, just to spell it out, they pretend they want to get people to reason, but the minute they really begin to do so, they are out!
