During the hour long symposium: Empowered by Holy Spirit

Under the part "To Fight Temptation," a little dramatization of a young married man doing some work on his laptop. He is tapping away when he suddenly slams his laptop shut. He then talks to himself for a few minutes about how shocking it was that a piece of pornography popped up. Then he admits that the model looks good. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to peek just for a few minutes. How really it doesn't say in the bible to not view pornography specifically. Then he asks himself, "what am I doing?!" He then reasons how pornography is not wholesome, and how it does say that if a man looks at a woman with desire, he has already committed adultery with her and how that would be detrimental to his marriage. Blah blah blah. Finally he concludes that he will pray to Jehovah for help in fighting the temptation.

Lesson--pray to Jehovah lest ye view breasts and like it.

    Applause.

Under the part "To Resist Harmful Peer Pressure" a little dramatization of a late teenaged guy who is talking to himself about his friend who confided in him of some transgression and then asked him not to tell anyone. So the teenager thinks that he doesn't want to lose his friendship, and how his friend said it wasn't that big of a deal. But.....what his friend did is very questionable and this kind of thing really needs to be brought to the elder's attention. Finally, he decides to turn his friend in even if it means losing the friendship.

Lesson--turn your friends into the elders and break the confidences of friends.

    Applause.

Also seen, a dramatization of a family where the father's boss fired him for taking Friday off to go to the convention. Father announces that he's lost his job so that they could "enjoy" all three days of the convention. Oldest daughter pipes up and asks if this means she can't buy a new outfit (), youngest daughter pipes up and asks if she won't be able to go out to eat with her friends (), mother worries how they're going to pay their bills since she and the girls pioneer (of course they do ). The father mentions how a brother might have a job for him and that they should all trust in Jehovah and enjoy the whole three day assembly!

Lesson--get fired and put everyone in a pinch because you can't possibly miss one day of the blessed ASSembly. If you do, you'll suffer spiritually. If you suffer spiritually, you might die in the big A!

    Applause.

And as always, we were reminded numerous times to be obedient to the FDS and to do whatever they say without question or murmuring. They reminded us that Jehovah's spirit works through them and although they're imperfect men, they are delivering Jehovah's words and giving us the proper food at the proper time.

    Yay.

You got that right ! Those idiots want people to get fired instead of missing ONE FRICKIN DAY !!! Which also PROVES that they don't give a shit about GAS PRICES as a reason for the Book Study change...unless , of course, the WT has to pay for the gas !

It's morally reprehensible, and totally irresponsible, for them to even hint at the idea of losing ones job just to go to the convention. And then to suggest that the families concerns are just a bunch of superficial materialistic nonsense that can be dispensed with. They could care less that they can live free of concern up there at Bethel because of the hardworking people that pay for it.The GB and other drones don't have a clue about what it's like to earn a real living. What assholes they are !!!

LADY ZOMBIE- Good thread ! Thanks for filling us in on what happened ! May I join you in your nausea party? The part about the husband losing his job so as to be able to go to the 3 day convention- freaking ridiculous. Like Jehovah is going to snap his fingers and get you a new job after all the spiritual " enlightenment " at the convention . Jeez. This used to be a big hassle with me and my witness wife years ago back in the day ; as I only got a few hours sleep before Friday mornings working nights. She would try to rush me out of bed so we could make it to the assembly by noon on Friday. It was such a hassle. And expensive ! Glad I haven't done that for over 5 years now ! Peace out, Mr. Flipper

    Thanks Lady Zombie !

Now I can miss a chunk of the program and fake it with notes. Hee, hee, hee, more time for viewing naked ladies on the Interwebs, and I won't have to lose my job. And I won't tell any dubs, so they don't have to turn me in as MIA.

I assume there was only the one usual text, Matt. 24:45-47, to freshen that steaming pile of poo...

Lady Zombie - It is not my intention to highjack your thread, and I mean no disrespect, but I have to say that the word symposium really caught my eye. For me, a true symposium consists of discussion among the participants. It consists of reasoned and rational debate. In a true symposium, the audience members are participant-observers, with an emphasis on the word participant. In a true symposium, the audience members all observe and participate. There is a mutual exchange of ideas and perspectives.

For example, in the situation where the "brother" was viewing "pornography," someone could ask if pornography is distinct from erotica. If so, what is the difference?

In the case of the kid ratting out informing the elders of the transgression on the part of his friend, someone could inquire as to the virtue of loyalty. A person might bring out the idea that the elders do not necessarily have to become involved in every single matter. Someone could also mention that, throughout history, the Nazis and other brutal, totalitarian authorites used similar techniques to control the populations that were under their rule. One big negative consequence of such a tactic was that it created a general sense of paranoia in society, the end result being disastrous.

To be brief, these are complex situations.
