...and that is the reason the tumor grew to such proportions, due to abstinence of a blood transfusion.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, and it probably has. I was just shocked as I have never been aware of this "small detail" of the story before.

The following is a paste from http://www.amateurscientist.org/2007_12_01_archive.html

    Jehovah's Witness Without a Face
When Jose Maestre was 14, a tumor began growing on his face. The tumor could have been treated with a simple blood transfusion, but since Maestre was raised a Jehovah's Witness, such a procedure was against his religion. Now the tumor has grown to a horrible, disfiguring 15 inches long, and it weighs 12 pounds. However, a charitable doctor at St. Bartholomew's Hospital in London thinks he can perform a surgical procedure using ultrasound waves to remove the tumor. In all the heartwarming magnanimity on display here, is anyone else wondering how Maestre's mother ("from whom he took his religious beliefs", to quote the Telegraph 's article) was allowed to refuse him a blood transfusion when he was a child? Isn't that child abuse? This is a rather graphic example of the stupidity of allowing people to use their unwitting children as ideological playthings. If that woman weren't dead, she should be in jail. And if hell existed, I'd wish that upon her, too. More details here.

Please note that the editorial above is not my own.

If memory serves, this was discussed here a couple of years ago.

But it always good to keep people informed of the many benefits that await them in the Brooklyn Paradiseā„¢ promised by Jehovah's Witnesses.

Following Watchtower Medical Dogma brings many benefits, does it not?

Let us rise and sing song number 69, "Raspberry Beret."

The GB got it wrong on blood and are afraid to change the non-biblical doctrine.

But do they care enough about people to admit the wrong and change?

The GB has a price to pay to someone.

Forcing, then sacrificing JW's to prove some point. Then forcing them to do the same to their children.

The JW blood story is an incredible story of abuse. From the GB on down to its followers, all are guilty and share blame, that carry out such an abominable practice.

This practice alone proves God's spirit is not with them.

Thank you so much for all of your comments. It is amazing what horrors spring from the Watchtower dogma, is it not? Things which would never even enter our minds, and yet, look how it affected this dear man's life! Incomprehensible.

I had no idea that this man was a Witness.. I recall the documentary being trailered but no mention of his faith in that. I confess I did not watch it - there have been so many "freak show" documentaries that I gave this one a miss. (That is no disrespect to the poor man, just a comment on the way that TV tends to view them as a marketable commodity, for shock value)

Based on what was said above I looked for some follow up info. This link to a message board has people saying that there were unconfirmed reports that he died..

Such a waste, if it could have been treated earlier. Another life ruined by sheep like adherence to bad religion and misinformation
