Birthdays

I have been dating a JW for about 4 months now. I was curious about her beliefs in the beginning. I had no idea what JW's believed. So I started looking into it. like how I found this discussion board. Every question I have asked her she has yet to know the reason why she believes what she does. Yesterday she was talking to her friend on the phone, and they went on and on about how terrible it was that someone they know went to a birthday party. So I asked her why. Again she didn't know. So I told her that was her home work. to find out and teach me why. So, any body know the reason. or where I can find it? I just got the NWT and a study bible that has 4 versions to compare it to.

Ask her if it why Abraham had a feast for Isaac and his weaning Genesis 21:8, why is this allowed, its no different to birthdays is it? Why are weddings ok but birthdays not? Christ went to weddings.

My living Bible says all of Jobs kids had a birthday celebration, each and every one had their own special day. So I guess if it was OK for god-fearing Job, why not others?

I agree that Job's children were indeed celebrating the day of their birth's. However, if you will read the account more closely I believe that you will NOT find Job having blessed his children for having engaged in the celebration of their birthdays. Instead, he expressed anxiety over the affair.

To add to my comment up above:

No where in the account having to do with Job's children having celebrated their birthdays does it suggest that Job himself attended such parties/events. In fact, there is evidence to the contrary, that he was NOT amongst his children during such occasions. Now THAT is strange, isn't it? Here each of Job's male children would regularly commemorate their birthday, but yet not invite their father -- their very progenitor -- to attend the celebration.

It's a darn good thing he didn't, too. People often get beheaded at those things. Most of my neighbors have stopped letting their remaining children have or attend birthday parties. The risk of beheading at them is just too high in these "troubled" times.
