A new arrangement for appointing regular pioneers has been announced.

In the past, a person would have to fill in a form from the society, this would have to be approved by the local elders, then this would be sent to the branch for final approval and appointment.

Now it is just the local elders that approve it. It doesn't need the branch approval any more.

They are selling it as a way to "speed up the process in order to be more effective in the ministry during these urgent times blah blah"

    It's called CYA.

The Watchtower Society wants to be as far removed as possible form the local congregations so when a pioneer is charged with child molestation the Governing Body can say we didn't even know he was a pioneer.

Watch for MS and elder appointments to be made by the acting CO's. That was another CYA move by the GB when they began using local elders as CO's.

    It's all about the $$$$

The real reason is so they can deny any responsibility should one of these special ministers be taken to Court.

Again, local Elders need to beware, they may find themselves held somewhat responsible, they should at least heed the bible's advice and not "lay their hands upon anyone hastily".

That's not new, it's been that way for at least 2 years.

At least in the US. Maybe in other countries it is now done that way also, and thus is "new" for them.

That's the same thing i said, to my knowledge this has been like this for couple of years.

Bit surprised! And the elder told me No, pioneers are approved by branch.

Am i getting the new light faster than the GB?

And now I could theoretically be hounded to regular pious-sneer, and then "approved" without even filling out a damn form because the hounders got behind by back and filled one out in my behalf, and now I am required to get the pious-sneer time? Even though I last stepped in one of those dumps in June 2005? Even though I have prominent Christmas displays throughout my apartment? Even though I have rap and heavy metal music peppered liberally through my music collection? Even though I got a Ouija board and various articles on how to correctly do spiritism printed on paper?

And worse, with the planet Saturn headed for Sagittarius, they are going to be willing to use your dedication as a legally binding contract, sue and threaten to sue you back in, and then sue and threaten to sue you into pious-sneering and getting your time in. Things are going to get messy, and all it takes is one bad judge to uphold your dedication as a legally binding contract to fling the floodgates wide open. If you are backhandedly approved to regular pious-sneer, it will also be impossible to just go out in field circus while the moon is void of course. (At least, if you only go while the moon is void of course, you are not likely to get the results they want you to get.)

    pioneers are approved by branch

Pioneers submit their application to the local elders. The decision is 100% on the elders.

If they approve, they submit the pioneer's name to the branch for "registration". You're not really a pioneer until "registered".

So the branch is involved, but it is just a rubber stamp.

Da.Furious must be referring to auxiliary pioneers

@just kidding: i am talking about regular pioneers. I knew some time ago reg pioneers used to be approved by the branch and the announcement was very similar to the elder/MS ones. But for some reason i thought this was scrapped and local elders approve them.

After reading sir82 reply this got me thinking. I may have been confused with the process.

So elders approve the reg pioneer and then send the approval for branch to sign-off. And this letter means there is no more requirement to have appointment signed off by branch. Elders can do this now on their own.

So if you want to have a better status, start getting gifts and inviting the service committee to BBQs - you will get the status.
