Disclaimer: This is a Rub a Dub serious comment (I can only do the serious stuff every so often when I haven't had enough fiber in my diet).

I was in a group with several brothers after the Sunday meeting and brought up the new information about the artificial blood. Only one had heard of it but most thought it was a good idea.

I then mentioned that I guess the new e-cigarettes are a good idea too. One mentioned that we don't smoke. I answered, we don't take blood either but if it's not the real thing, then it's OK to do.

The subject changed very quickly .. lol.

    "we don't smoke"

Actually, that is funny, considering the reality of *cough cough* closet smokers in the b'Org ............

I've had the discussion about e-cigarettes with a few JWs lately, too. Mostly with the same result as you...they quickly change the subject because they know there's absolutely no logic behind prohibiting them.

As long as JWs are allowed to drink alcohol and injest caffeine, there's no clear logic against e-cigs or eating pot brownies for that matter. As long as it's not causing harm to your physical body, and it's not illegal, what else can they say? Any mention of "addiction" or "mind altering affects" can be easily countered by citing the addictive, and mind-altering, effects of alcohol and caffeine. And we know how much the average JW relies on alcohol and coffee breaks to make it through each day!

" there's absolutely no logic behind ............." since when has that ever troubled the WT or their un-thinking R&F JW's ?

But great points made in this thread, I think too that talking about such matters to active JW's is great, they cannot view what you say as "apostate" or whatever, you are simply pointing out the facts about what is basically a non-religious subject.

But you may start them thinking about how illogical their stance is on so many things.

I think the idea that a person could be stumbled by seeing someone smoking a "fake" cigarette is no different than seeing someone taking "fake" blood.

Good comparison. I wonder if they will wake up. Rub a Dub, you have been a member since 2003, it must be really difficult staying in when you are fully awake to TTATT. You are in my thoughts.

    KateWild ...

Thank you for your thoughts. And yes, it does take endurance.

It could be argued that an e-cig is not a fake or artifical cigarette, it's just a different method of delivery of nicotine. OK, it contains significantly less toxic elements than a traditional tobacco cigarette but assuming it not just a perfumed vapour then it still contains nicotine which is an addictive substance.

Of course the comparision with other potentially harmful activities such as drinking is a valid one. It's also valid to question the logic of a prohibition on smoking e-cigarettes compared with the disingenuous stance on blood. That will never change the skewed logic of any one who is "in".
