I saw this at the Visiting Nurse Book Sale in February and it was too macabre to pass up.
The book is written by Ken Ham, an Australian born, young earth creationist. Briefly, two children go back in time using the Bible as their "Time Machine" and discover that dinosaurs of the entire Mesozoic Era coexisted with Adam and Eve:
Witness relatives are amused by this book at first, but they become very uneasy after just a minute or so. I wonder why? Maybe because much of it reads exactly like Witness stuff?
On the diet of animals in Eden:
Witnesses:
"Yet what about the features of animals and humans that are used for maiming and killing? Since God created a vast variety of different features, many of them could be adapted to the new situation...
An example is the powerful gorilla, with its awesome fangs --fangs still used to rip and consume heavy vegetation.
Dinosaurs Of Eden:
"Consider the panda. It has really sharp teeth, but it eats mainly plants...You see, just because an animal has sharp teeth doesn't mean it's a meat eater. It just means it has sharp teeth!"
On the reliablity of Science vs. using the Bible as a "Time Machine"
Witnesses:
"We do not believe it is possible to establish for a certainty how things were in the distant past by observing the present. Conditions have changed. But we do have a clear statement from the past, namely Genesis 1:29, 30...
Dinosaurs Of Eden:
"Evolutionists don't have a "time machine" to know what happened in the past. They weren't there, so they have to make guesses as to what they think happened....
Now, we do have a history book (the Bible) that does tell us all we need to know about the events of the past."
On Archaeopteryx:
Witnesses:
"The fossils of birds called by scientists, Archaeopteryx (or, ancient wing) and Archaeornis (or, ancient bird), though showing teeth and a long vertebrated tail, also show they were completely feathered, had feet equipped for perching, and had fully developed wings."
Dinosaurs Of Eden:
"Some evolutionists have claimed that Archaeopteryx was a part-dinosaur/part bird mix....Archaeopteryx may have been unusual, but it was 100 percent bird."
The similarities actually go beyond the textual. As you can see from the third picture above, there's also a visual similarity to Witness depictions of Eden. I'm curious if anybody else has had a similar experience? Have you noticed that Witnesses appear embarassed or uneasy when they realize how much they have in common with their fellow Christian fundamentalists?
