  Ironically, in today's WT, JWs are encouraged to study the early history of the "earthly organization".

  Like them [the sons of Korah], do you have a desire to study and recount the history of the earthly part of Jehovah’s organization? The more you learn about God’s organization and how Jehovah supports his people, the more real God’s Kingdom will be to you. -- w2012 8/15, p. 12, para. 5 - [Emphasis added]

  Imagine if all the JWs really did that! It would cause a nightmare of trouble for the GB.

  I can only guess they know that most won't bother, and of the few that do, the majority of them will only study the WTBTS's sanitized versions of their history. The remaining ones that actually learn the factual truth about the early history of the organization will all become apostates.

  Interesting gambit in the propaganda techniques of the GB, oh, excuse me, "The Faithful and Discreet Slave!" I guess it's a chance their willing to take to appear open and honest. The few that will leave are all trouble-makers anyways!

  You would only be encouraged to look at their own sanitised history, which when I was an active JW I was well aware was mainly B.S, but the average Dub, if you could find one interested enough to bother, would simply lap it up as "so encouraging".

  I remember one wannabe Elder, quite a clever guy, but he read the "Proclaimers" book and thought it was great ! I could not understand his opinion then, but they are blinded.

  As you say, if a JW with half a sparking brain cell came across the REAL history they would s**t themselves, and then leave.

  They want to encourage to read the sanitized version so when they hear the true version they will say, "ahhh don't bother I already heard it all".

  The WTS is about ready to close the circle. By that I mean that with the latest developments concerning pedophilia and how congregation elders handle such cases, the Governing Body assuming sole ownership of the F&DS mantle, and directing people to the organization’s early history, they are circling the wagons and hunkering down for an attack.

  The leadership (the Governing Body and Legal, Service and Writing Departments) knows that the natives are getting restless. So they are taking up defensive positions to repulse calls for reform and loosening of control. Many are unhappy even if they don’t fully understand why. Many also know that “something is rotten” in the Witnessdom. So before anything can break out that will cause some huge upset, the leadership is taking steps to enhance its control. I think that is the real meaning behind these recent developments.

  Totalitarian regimes can only see more and more control as the way to stop rebellion. The W.T is following a well trodden path, but those regimes still got what was coming to them, the extra last ditch rigid and hurtful control did not do more than delay things by a short time.

  Quendi, I certainly agree that the GB is circling the wagons, but I don't see how you think " directing people to the organization’s early history" is part of that?!?!?

  Sanitized history a la Joseph Stalin:

  

  Nikolai Yezhov walking with Stalin in the top photo from the 1930s. Yezhov was killed in 1940. Following his execution, Yezhov was edited out of the photo by Soviet censors. Such retouching was a common occurrence during Stalin's rule.

  Someone posted a while back pictures from the DVD "Out of Darkness" which showed an actual assembly (Cedar Point?) and the re-enactment. In the DVD version American flags had been removed.

  I searched JWN but couldn't find the pics. Any one know where that thread was?
