Apognophos
An exiting Witness who spent three decades in "the truth". I have resigned from the forum in protest of the manner in which the forum is run. This is not a welcoming place unless you are prepared to fall in line with the beliefs of the administrator and the most prominent posters, or else keep silent on certain subjects. I do not believe that ridicule is ever an appropriate response to someone who is arguing in good faith. I see it as bullying, and I will never associate with bullies. I came here because of the insightful posts about history vs. the Bible and the history of Witness beliefs, but unfortunately it seems that the forum's best days are behind it. Most discussion of the religion is thoughtlessly negative rather than thoughtfully critical. The front page currently calls this "a friendly, tolerant and informative environment". Depending on one's perspective, all three of those adjectives can be considered incorrect. Although I am disappointed at the lack of rationality here, I am leaving not just to avoid a toxic atmosphere, but also to focus on positive, constructive activities and make up for the time I lost to the religion, something that I cannot do while actively discussing the religion regularly. In case anyone has anything to say to me, I will try to check for PMs once in a while.

I was raised a JW from the age of 7, shortly after my mum became one she married a man who turned out to be a pedo! I suffered 5 years of his abuse, angry with life and seeking happiness I was baptised at 15. Soon became an MS and later an elder, I quit overnight when I was nearly 40. I have 2 children one who lives with their JW mother who I am trying to save, the other one is out and lives with me. I DA'd in December 2013. My abuser is now serving his prison sentence for the crimes against me, he is still a JW.

l am a " middle aged +" woman who has never been a JW , in fact a life long Anglican . Through doorstep conversations with JWs l became aware of WT teaching and in an effort to learn more l realised how much this cult destroys lives . So l came here to learn how to converse with JWs and " witness to Witnesses " .

Just a curious non-JW who is in to comparative religion. I've known quite a few Witnesses over the years which led me to research the denomination.

LoisLane looking for Superman
Born in. A true Believer. Woke up after I read CofC. I was shocked to realize I had been deceived by a corrupt world wide real estate business that only masqueraded as a true religion tso as to snare naive people like me. My whole life's decisions were based on a group of egotisical men who thought up weird symbolisms that "proved" their's was the one and only true religion. So they printed books, lots of books and made us true Believers sell them, in that way, Brooklyn headquarters considered themselves a Bible and track society Christian charity. I didn't get divorced because god hates a divorcing... To be in a loveless marriage for almost 40 years, to keep putting up with abuse from a narcissist husband / Elder because you don't know where to go what to do who to trust, is life draining. Simon's site has been an oasis in a desert for me. Where we can come together, understand what happened to us and to heal. I have actually met some of the posters from here. All fine people. I hope we can all find strength to move forward and enjoy some sembelance of happiness.

Born in and was a regular pioneer for ten years. My husband was also a pioneer and an elder for four years before we disassociated 29 years ago. I am now a widow and have a daughter. I no longer believe in God. I try to live ethically and make decisions each time on the given circumstances rather than follow someone who says they have a hotline to heaven.
