My understanding is that creationism is the study or search if you like of what brought us into being quite simple really.
Nugget are physicists not scientists, they have been pondering and arguing about creationism for years ie the process or cause of why everything has been brought into being hence created hence creationism. By the way god adam eve etc have nothing to do with it but i have definately heard scientists discuss the religious reasoning on it or would you rather they didn't?

Because the belief in a flat earth is scientificaly proven to be false .Belief in creationism is believing that all that exists today had to have been brought into being by some process whatever that process was, is what created all we have today. The definition of create is : bring into being, you cant argue you have not been brought into being can you? The education aspect of the WHYs and WHEREFOREs of the subject should not exclude any theories. Again i say lies should NOT be taught as fact.

lisa rose I agree , but i dissagree that creationism is religion. If you want my 2 cents on it see my previous posts.
phizzy I agree facts do need proof , although you could argue FACTS are indeed facts LOL . I would not agree that a teacher should teach lies or suppositions as truth .That teacher should be held to account for it ,and in my view struck off!
About your flat earth example , no one would agree it should be taught as true, but would you not allow it to be known in a history lesson about ancient beliefs I.E. why would you exclude it?
Creationism cannot surely be equated to ancient belief in a flat earth, why because we all exist (fact) and our existence came about by some process . The learning about this process is what education is, for EVERY point of view or theory should be up for discussion. The whacky nutcase ones can be discounted very quickly by sound reasoning On no account should lies be taught as fact.

B.O.T run, creationism is not A religion but is a point of view concerning how things, us included came into being. unless you utilise censorship why shouldn't it be part of school or college debate . The various points of view or understandings should of course NEVER be taught as fact . Although evolution is a fact the evolutionary process did not begin until the creation (bringing into being) of the material which kicked off the process .This process however did not necessarily require the hand of god . I.M.O. it definately did not .Therefore the subject of creationism in schools should only ever be discussed within the realms of the probabilities and beliefs which exist .Each can then draw their own conclusions . Hopefully common sense will prevail.
Cofty, why wouldn't anyone in a discussion in school or wherever about the holocaust not be able to learn that some people hold the view that it did not occur ? Similarly a discussion on astronomy/astrology . Each relates to the subject matter, the false or overtly superstitious information or points of view can then easily be debunked by anyone with half a brain .I dont think the route of censorship does anyone any favors.

Nugget that is the whole point of studying a subject even the most ridiculous of points of view must be discussed to be reasoned on in order to form an opinion scientific investigation is built on this principle .Hence the reason why I said previously the world religious and scientific explanations must be studied in parallel because they are both offering an explanation for the same question.

IMO children should be given the opportunity to discuss all opinions .Hopefully of course they will come to a non biased conclution for themselves which scientific study concurs with

COFTY. Not to be argumentative, but the topic subject does not mention evolution but 'creationism', which as an encompassing subject would surely take into account all aspects of how things have been' brought into being' which is the definition of to create. The pupils would surely have a right to have all understandings of the subject discussed. To avoid them saying at a future time, " i wasn't told about that ".

COFTY .I agree evolution is fact. I was referring to the creation aspect as per topic question I.E. by what method did 'creation' begin, as defined "bring into being" It doesn't have to be an intelligence as in god, but can also be due to other forces which physicists are still trying to ascertain So as i say the topic question is not fundamentally about evolution per,se.
