This may be only the beginning of the public outrage over these sexual abuse cases that the courts take so lightly and the Watchtower Society ignores. Neither will be able to continue in this course if the public demands changes. Silent Lambs and Bill Bowen have done us all a great service!

Twenty years ago I heard the figure that 50% of young members left the organization. I did not realize that it had increased that amount (80%) in the interim years. The guage of how well religious organizations are doing has traditionally been the number of young people who supported it. These figures would indicate a real serious problem for the Watchtower Society.
This trend is seen in other churches as well. But in some cases, they see a return of families as these young people get married and have children of their own. Except in rare cases, I doubt this would happen in the Watchtower Society. "Once burned, always burned" would seem to prevail.

The reason you are seeing so many birds at your feeder is probably due to the fact that changes were made because of the writings of such pioneer enviromentalists like Rachel Carson. Her Silent Spring made all of us look seriously at what was happening to our enviroment.
I agree fully with you about the Watchtower's propensity of using the studies of others for their own message of "doom and gloom." But don't disparage the work of those who brought about positive changes that have benefited all of us.

was df a number of years ago and has quite a story to tell that borders on the unbelieveable ,but true .
richard has held bible conferences in soap lake for many years now, called and told me that a former jw ,a playright showed interest in his story while attending one of his conferences in soap lake.. the playright harold james called richard an invited him and his wife to the play as above ,exspenses paid plus a get together after the play .. richard also mentioned that barbara anderson along with 4 texas attorneys will also be in attendance at the play .although richard is diabetic and hard to understand because of a number of recent strokes he presses on and is in the process of arrangeing a conference in detroit city wa.on may /04 re a debate between greg stafford and dr. robert morey on the trinity and expects an attendance of about 1500 .. in conclusion hats off to richard the lionheart take care all don .
Richard Rawe and I have been communicating for the last few years. ( He by phone, me by letter.) He's been sending me interesting e-faxes on the latest news on the sexual abuse scandal. He's an interesting man and a tireless worker. He's had a rather difficult road with health problems.
My wife and I send hearty congratulations to him and his wife. Hope they have an enjoyable visit to New York. I don't expect he'll tour Bethel. But with Richard....one never knows!...haha

That is one quote that I had not seen before. Thanks for sharing it with us. It's just one more example of how the Watchtower Society has "whitewashed" its own history. I'm surprised, though, that the Watchtower would come out with this statement since Rutherford was in control at the time. Perhaps he was too busy behind the lines completing his own "coup de main" and let this one slip by?
i just read in the 11/1/03 wt an article entitled cultivate a giving spirit.
never have i seen the society so unashamedly extend its hands in search of more money.
i'm going to let the article speak for itself.
I remember seeing an occasional article (at least once a year) for a plea such as this more than 20 years ago. One might not have objected to this if the Watchtower Society was more forthright in making a financial declaration each year as to where this money goes. But it has chosen to keep all its financial records in the U.S. secret. Many other religious organizations have full disclosure.
Like Blondie and her husband, my wife and I have also decided to give to local charities where there is no overhead (large salaries and huge expenditures on campaigns). Recent scandals in some of the larger charity organizations have discouraged us. We prefer to give to those causes where we know the contributions are going to the needy...not the greedy.
well, after two weeks of every major grocery store here being on strike and the smaller markets are having trouble keeping up with the demand, now the sky is gray-orange and ash is everywhere!
i know, i know, i shouldn't complain because of all the poor folks being evacuated and some even losing their homes.
i'm not really complaining though.
Some of the reports we're reading about the California fires are scary. One news account said that 500 houses have been destroyed. I sure hope that all who live there will take the precautions and leave the fire areas when necessary. For those posting on this site, our thoughts and prayers are with you.
does anyone have any information on what occurred after the society dropped its suit in the bonham kingdom hall dispute?
the last i heard was the society built another kingdom hall.
what ever happened to those in the congregation that sued the society?

It amazing to what length the Watchtower Society will go to keep its financial empire intact. After years of condemning the Catholic church with its "hierarchy" it now confirms that it is a legal hierarchy itself. In the Swaggart case in California, it rushed its "friend of the court" brief . It will do anything when it comes to protect its money and property.
It reminds me of the passage: "...and the Pharisees were money lovers."
