Has a critical mass of exJWs been reached?
by truthseeker init took the better part of 15 years but i believe we have finally arrived at that point where there is now a critical mass of former witnesses.. thousands of exjws come together on forums like this one and discuss findings, ideas and research.
there have been documentaries and even a movie made about life in the jehovah's witnesses.. ex jw websites, online forums, and discussion boards that set the wheels in motion in the early to late 90s have matured into powerful tools of social change within the organization.. the lies and false doctines taught by the watchtower bible & tract society are plainly accessible with just a cursory google search.. active elders leak boe letters, often weeks before they hit the notice board in a kingdom hall.. social media has allowed exjws to connect with those still in as well as those who have left.. the society have no game plan because information is power and they have lost the information war.
all they can do is cry wolf and warn the rank and file not to listen to apostates.. i don't know what future the society will face in the next ten years, but changing world events, social trends, and reactionary change from headquarters based on their own faulty biblical chronology has got them cornered like a raging animal.. it doesn't look good..

@alphaman... please do the math, the vast majority cant be kids.
there are 7.9 million publishers and 9.2 million biblestudies. average population growth is 1.2% -- The nr of biblestudies did rise with 500,000 in just one year (2013)
Those 500.000 extra biblestudies in a year cant be their children due to population growth figures,... and the fact that a lot of those 8 million JW's do not have kids or cant get kids anymore (for example because of their age)
also what you say about the nr of them leaving is complete non sense and contradicts your statement you made before when you said that the vast majority of those studying are kids, since the nr of JW's is growing every year with about 200-300,000 a year.
You talk bat shit crazy shit

@nonjwspouse
seeing one congregation merging with another and then thinking you can explain how things are in all developed countries of the world does not make sense. Whatever your personal experience or knowledge is.. it never says anything about the overall situation on national and international levels.
anyway all you have said does not take away the fact that on this forum several topics can be found (dating 10 or more years back) that predicted a serious downfall or even the end of Jehovah's Witnesses by now. But the fact is there are many more congregations, publishers biblestudies etc etc.
Als your argument of changed requirements is not relevant and does not take away the fact that every year the number of publishers is growing more than 200,000 a year. Changed requirements would cause a new peak in the year things changed but would not be responsible for a sustained yearly growth of more than 200,000

guys look it up on this forum ... there are threads from 10 or more years back that said and predicted the same. In the meantime the witnesses added millions of extra publishers. Even in secular western countries their number remained the same or showed growth.
the last 2 years they even started to emphasize on their website & use of the internet and leading people towards it. They managed to draw a million visitors a day to JW.ORG and with the august 2014 event in mind we can be sure that that nr of unique visitors per day will grow.
look for example to the growth of bible studies
in 2011 8,490,746
in 2012 8,759,988
in 2013 9,254,963
that means that they added about 500,000 biblestudies in the year 2013. That is about 100% more than the number of biblestudents added during 2012
i am sure that they keep growing and that the internet wont change that ,. even not for a bit

Only two options...
1. in ten years time the world as we know it is ending or has ended
2. Jehovah's Witnesses added at least 2 million more publishers to their ranks

ATMs in assembly halls
by Xanthippe ini only heard about these atms last year on this forum.
the poster seemed to be saying they are for donating only, is that correct?
absolutely gobsmacked over this, don't the brothers see any correlation between this and the likes of jimmy swaggart?

@DOC if an article is talking about payments in Italian Lire's it would not be relevant too (since that currency does not exist anymore) , that is what i meant.
40 years ago the world and average household did not pay with plastic. Now every household does.

@MNIL the stories that blondie came up with are not relevant. Some of them are 30 - 40 years old.
And the one of 2003 (which is not an article in Awake! but just a quote from a news article that appeared in a newspaper) is talking about atm's in local churches (like having atm's in local Kingdom Halls) and putting copies of the receipts on the collection plate.
So that it cost money to organise conventions, assemblies, run a branch office is obvious. Also that the expenses must be covered. That means that, if we like things to continue as they are, every circuit of congregations has to contribute.
the difference is.. we dont pass the plates, we dont approach individuals and ask if they donated yet, we dont need proof or copy of receipts. Its just a system of voluntary donations. If someone would like to give its possible. If another one dont want to give,.. no one will notice or know.. except the person itself and Jehovah.
Again its only logical that in a cashless society stores, shops and organisations adapt to the new situation in order to get the funds that are needed

@Splash
1. in the Netherlands all people have bankcards that is not the same as a credit card.
2. dozens of articles (in the watchtower & awake) about money, debt etc etc say over and over again that people must not spent what they dont have and not to buy things someone cant afford. So every brother or sister is aware of this advise. The bible (and also a recent study article in the watchtower) tells us that taking care of the needs for the family (food, clothing and shelter) must have a priority. And that when you offer something to Jehovah but neglect your family it is in vain.
So we are taught only to give what we can give and of what we have, and not to give if we dont have it or cant give because of other priorities.
