  Courts will have to decide between justice or appeasement.

  Federal court will decide if she continue with contempt of the court or not. Nothing more, nothing less. All other issues were either settled by Constitution or by the SCOTUS ruling, which is not part of the game the federal court is dealing with Kim Davis today.

  The glorified clerk has made powerful friends more valuable than her job.

  She can become pastor of her own church the most, but her political career is over at the county level. After her 15 min fame is up, she will forgotten. She is liability, not an assets. Anita Bryant did not fared much better with much better physical appearance.

  what is it about some of these self proclaimed "christians" who go seeking persecution when it don't exist?.

  we've had a case locally in calgary where the initial reports sounded like the person had a legitimate claim: a bus driver didn't want to drive the bus in a gay pride parade and said he'd resign if they made him and that the local transit company was threatening him to force him to do it.. except it was all invented ... by him !.

  ReligionOfHatred. In Europe I never encountered anyone who would ever claim that A.H was atheist. In schools and media we were taught that he believed in his own version of God and Providence, and particularly disliked OT God as to be Jewish invention. Hitler was rather very religious, but it is more or less American invention to label him as atheist. It is only in USA when people associate him and his regime as atheistic. Stalin was probably religious, so did Khrushchev. Stalin suppose to be priest and had good understanding how religion can lead masses. His version of communism was modified religious movement. It had its saints, founders, mummy to worship, cult of personality.

  I am not aware that both dictators had ever met. I have read a lot of articles they tried to prove to do so, and they closest the research anyone had done seemed to point out that they may have met within Lviv area on the train for brief congratulation on destruction of Poland in October 1939 (Published by Edvard Radzinsky's biography Stalin, claiming that it happened in October 18, 1939).   Churches through its history were very selective on what disease deserved pity and support and what disease was seen as a punishment for sin and the victims were treated as they deserved. Typical issue is leprosy which was seen as a holy disease by Catholic church and its victims were cared of. People who got syphilis were treated with disgust as a sinner who deserved to suffer and die. This was going on until invention of salvarsan and later penicillin. Churches throughout Europe and later Northern America were refusing even burial for these victims. There was no mercy nor compassion. HIV in 1980-2015 is on the same spotlight as disease of the sinners by much of the christian community as was syphilis two centuries earlier.

  Depending on the state, cohabitation is defined differently and can be considered common law marriage. However, from many benefits the marriage has cohabitation laws do not have as significant standing as real marriage. Even in the terms of immigration, SSA, and judicial standing, cohabitation are rather worthless.

  I disagree, because there is much more involved than business relationship that are defined in marriage. Marriage protects two people from testifying against each other, unlike in business relationship. Marriage laws and business laws are different. Business tends to outlive the founders of the corporation, and the regulations are far different.

  In short, I just don't see how a marriage should be a contract between both partners and the state.

  I see it as contract between two and the government. Additionally, SSA handles survival benefits and other issues just from THIS particular contract.

  According to the bible, after the thousand years, the earth will have four corners again, even Br. Splane mentioned squaring the circle in his latest talk. so, imagine those 4 peaks peeking out of the atmosphere. it will take our breath away.( from atmos, gre. atmen ger) breathing.

  No it wont. There is issue of gravity which limits the heights of the mountain ranges on Earth. Mars have much higher mountain than Earth due lower gravity. However, mountains have a limit how high they can rise, which is clearly visible in the Himalayas and subsequent collapse of Cimmerican plate due Earth's gravity.

  Religious marriage is still government contract. If you have a reverend, priest, rabbi, druid, imam performing marriage in USA, it is still a government contract. Even the retarded bible preacher who is officiant and hip hop in front of crucifix and screams "O praise Him" and perform marriage, is still doing government contract. For many who are not affiliated with any religious group, marriage can be performed at any court in USA. I do not need any religious officiant conduct my marriage. Marriage is valid in the front of law regardless if it was conducted by religious or secular officiant. Therefore, it is government business. It is ridiculous to claim that only religious ceremony is valid marriage license. It does not work that way. Even prior last SCOTUS ruling, gay couple could get married by many gay-friendly churches. On the other hand, many heterosexual marriage could not be conducted by people of mixed faith by religious officiant. For that reason, marriage became a secular contract between two people and the government. SCOTUS included this contract for SSM in 14 states which discriminated gay and lesbian people from possibility to enter into this contract.

  Marriage is a complex contract. Government is involved since 1791. Marriage is legal binding document. It simplify issues like inheritance, property ownership, taxes, and identify a family unit under one census code. Government is therefore necessary. I do not pay taxes to any religious institution, I am secular and I do not give money to any religious institution. I pay taxes; local, state, and federal. Therefore, it is a government business. I want that my marriage is upheld by the government in the case one of the spouses die. Every sane, industrial country in the world recognized that marriage is a civil contract and belongs under government involvement.

  I have not talked about domestic partner benefit. Since federal government decided to make marriage equal among sexes between two adult, domestic partnership is no more valid. Any case, if two same-sex couple could not file join taxes, having inheritance of common property or even claim SS benefits, it is discrimination as SCOTUS had ruled. Therefore, marriage between same sex or opposite sex is the government business. I do not care what any religious organization had to say about my marriage. I know that some orthodox Jewish synagogue would not validate my marriage to Jew, but I did not get married in synagogue, and I do not claim any Jewish benefits either.

  garyneal, Government was always involved in marriage since 1791 because it was considered civil contract as well. For that reason county courts in USA were required to collect information in their jurisdiction regarding marriage. I had civic marriage in USA and no religious. My spouse is Jewish (orthodox), and we did not want any rabbi to get involved in it. Government has as much right to get involved in the marriage as it is desirable and necessary for tax purposes, census data, alimony, inheritance, and benefits.

  Currently slight majority of Americans are not associated with any church and good portion of population does not belong to any religious organization. Therefore, state, county, and federal government plays a crucial role in giving people to right to marry and with it all the associated benefits. Removing government from marriage business in secular society is impossible and undesirable.

  It will be interesting what will happen next week in the county. There are talks that she wants to fire all her subordinates who disobeyed her order not to issue marriage. I believe they are waiting for it to happen so KY AG can put own prosecution case and get her removed from the office by legal means.
