Just buy North American and sell to North Americans.
Everybody here would have a GM, Ford or Chrysler and they would be making lots of money.
Same thing with clothing, make it here and sell it here.
Everybody would work
And what about all the American workers who produce exports? What if we could no longer sell our software, airplanes, movies, and music to the rest of the world? Millions of Americans would be out of a job.
Trade produces growth. You and I have different talents and resources, and if we were the only two people on earth, we would be better off trading than trying to be self-sufficient. The same is true of families, clans, towns, regions and countries.
Do you believe that any state in the union would be better off if it didn't trade with the rest of the country? Then why believe that any country is better off not trading with the rest of the world?

Quote: It is not necessary for Bible translators to know Hebrew and Greek.
by Elsewhere ini just found some very revealing information in the branch organization manual.. 1. they admit that bible translators do not need to know hebrew or greek.
2. they admit that the reason the authors' names are omitted is primarily to protect the organization and the authors from liability.. all bold letters are original... i added the yellow highlight and red text.. branch organization manual: page 25-5.
46. bible translation: when there are sufficient.

Is there an English verb "to reference"?Yes; from m-w:
1 a : to supply with references b : to cite in or as a reference
2 : to put in a form (as a table) adapted to easy referenceThe most common meaning is 1b.
The 1913 Webster's didn't have it; I would guess that it's a relatively recent (~50 years) back-formation from the noun; c.f. contact.

Within Our Lifetime Again?
by GermanXJW inmy father showed me a watchtower, i thing it was feb 1st 2006. the last sentence of the first article said something like the reader could live to see god's judgement.
.
anybody has the latest issues at hand?

Here's the part that gets me: if they say "within your lifetime" to a large audience, what does that actually mean? Does it mean the lifetime of the 80-year-olds who probably won't live another 10 years? Or does it mean the lifetime of the 5-year-olds who could easily live another hundred years (considering how medical technology keeps improving)? It's so vague it's meaningless.

JWs - Prudes or not Prudes?
by Spectrum ini was looking at jwconnections out of curiosity thinking i'd find a selection of prudish jw women but was shocked to find that some of these women don't look prudish at all.
they'ed probably give worldly women a run for their money.
maybe things are changing.

Also(slight digression), I thought JWs weren't meant to use the internet nevermind have a dating service, so I was led to believe on this site. Whose been telling porkies JWs or JWDs?
First off, there's no actual rule against using the Internet. It's okay to use it to shop online, to send e-mail, etc. they're just not supposed to go to any websites about Jehovah's Witnesses, other than the official ones.
But a fair number of JWs do it anyway. They're usually the 'marginal' or 'unspiritual' ones, but not always. I used to run a JW website called JWZone when I was a ministerial servant and pioneer. And although it wasn't a dating site, I did meet my wife on it. To keep the "apostates" out, however, we only allowed people to register if they were known by an existing member.
I actually had an idea for creating an online chain-of-referrals site (I guess kind of like Friendster, although I didn't know about it at the time) where you could identify people whom you knew were JWs, and they could identify people whom they knew, etc. I left before I ever got to implement it.

"Hitchiker's Guide" fans, have you read Dirk Gently?
by AlmostAtheist inmany of you are familiar with douglas adams' more popular series of books based on the original "hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy".
if you enjoyed them, i would like to recommend you also read his other 2 1/2 books starring the private investigator dirk gently.
these can be found in the books "dirk gently's holisitic detective agency", "the long, dark tea-time of the soul", and his posthumously published collection of essays and incomplete third gently novel, "the salmon of doubt".

I've read Tea-time; never picked up any of the other ones, but I loved it. Like Hitchhiker's Guide, a lot of the humor is in the deadpan narration, which I think is part of the reason the movie version wasn't that successful. It works great in print, however.

Zagor... if memory serves, India passed a law that forbade religions from being financed from abroad, which is why they had to rely solely on their own funds and couldn't accept funds from the States. At least that was the story.

Beards are evil, but do you know why?
by free2beme inas a witness, i knew several men who attempted to grow beards.
when they did, and attended meetings, it did not take long to be talked to by elders and told, "as spiritual men, they should not display an outward form of rebellion.
" why was this a form of rebellion?

Lady Lee... oddly enough, the WTS actually published that anecdote. Of course, they justify it (along with other parts of Rutherford's purge) by claiming that people were engaging in 'creature worship' of Russell:
yb74 97-8 But more equipment was needed. For that reason Brother Balzereit asked Brother Rutherford for permission to buy a rotary press. Brother Rutherford saw the necessity and agreed, but on one condition. He had noticed that over the years Brother Balzereit had grown a beard very similar to the one that had been worn by Brother Russell. His example soon caught on, for there were others who also wanted to look like Brother Russell. This could give rise to a tendency toward creature worship, and Brother Rutherford wanted to prevent this. So during his next visit, within hearing of all the Bible House family, he told Brother Balzereit that he could buy the rotary press but only on the condition that he shave off his beard. Brother Balzereit sadly agreed and afterward went to the barber.
Balzereit is, if memory serves, the same man whom the WTS attempted to scape-goat for the early attempts to make nice with Hitler.

Two classes of Christians after all?
by Narkissos infirst, as i am just back online, happy new year to everyone!
totally unrelated to the above (or maybe not), it just occurred to me that the unscriptural wt doctrine of "two classes of christians" might have some faint pars veritatis after all as far as the nt is concerned.. of course it is not about "anointed or not," "two hopes," "heaven vs. earth".. yet several segments of early christianity did seem to allow for a huge difference in levels of requirement, vocation, or fate among believers.
on the one hand, the high and hard way of the apostles, disciples, missionaries, evangelists, martyrs; on the other hand, the minimal requirement of the rest.
