Another big hole in 1914
by leaving_quietly in1914 is the year for two major events: the end of the gentile times and the beginning of the last days.. .
the gentile times prophecy (luke 21:24) is a supposition that the "seven times" of daniel 4 had a second fulfillment, thus the 2,520 years prophecy was born with 607 c.e.
as the starting point.

Science is best defined as a careful, disciplined, logical search for knowledge about any and all aspects of the universe, obtained by examination of the best available evidence and always subject to correction and improvement upon discovery of better evidence. What's left is magic. And it doesn't work. -- James Randi
What is the Scientific Method'?
The scientific method is the best way yet discovered for winnowing the truth from lies and delusion. One simple version looks something like this:
- 1. Observe some aspect of the universe.
- 2. Invent a tentative description, called a hypothesis, that is consistent with what you have observed.
- 3. Use the hypothesis to make predictions.
- 4. Test those predictions by experiments or further observations and modify the hypothesis in the light of your results.
- 5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until there are no discrepancies between theory and experiment and/or observation.
The great advantage of the scientific method is that it is unprejudiced: one does not have to believe a given researcher, one can redo the experiment and determine whether his/her results are true or false. The conclusions will hold irrespective of the state of mind, or the religious persuasion, or the state of consciousness of the investigator and/or the subject of the investigation. Faith, defined as belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence, does not determine whether a scientific theory is adopted or discarded.

That's an interesting quote, but a pretty lame explanation of the scientific method.
Also, scientists are subject to peer review. The GB forbid their followers from even having secret doubts.
They want to appear objective, but that's clearly just an act.

A question for those still active as JWs
by Rufus T. Firefly infrom the sept. 15, 1981 watchtower, p. 23, par.
a person might renounce his place in the christian congregation by his actions, such as by becoming part of an organization whose objective is contrary to the bible, and, hence, is under judgment by jehovah god.
so if one who was a christian chose to join those who are disapproved of god, it would be fitting for the congregation to acknowledge by a brief announcement that he had disassociated himself and is no longer one of jehovahs witnesses.. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.

Another elder came and told me I'm not an apostate and no-one can judge me.
by Julia Orwell ini'll call him bear, like teddy bear because he's big and nice.
bear's the coboe, an intelligent but jittery man who suffers from a host of anxiety disorders.
he 'just happened' to be driving down my street after the group, and 'just happened' to notice i was at home, tending to some animals.

Isn't it nice the way being a JW creates trust issues?

DATA-DOG: My wife told me that the GB have more holy spirit, so whatever they say is more likely to be correct.
"More likely to be correct." Nice. The thing about THAT is this, very few of us go around claiming we are the only ones with the true and accurate interpretation of the Bible.
That being said, I certainly know WRONG when I see/hear/read it.
leaving_quietly's wife said: "Do you think you are smarter than the Society?
I never use to, but their actions over the last several decades have absolutely convinced me that they are way dumber than the average person and too arrogant to acknowledge it.
QUESTION: Seriously, what kind of people go around claiming to be the only ones that "has the Truth," yet frequently have to change important details of what that "Truth" is and then deny they were ever wrong meanwhile denouncing anyone that dares to even question them?
ANSWER: The Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses
