Nicely done. If the religion really became more loving, everyone of us here would be extolling its virtues rather than renouncing its hypocrisy and abuse.

Another Lie/Revisionist History in todays WT study!!
by BU2B ini caught yet another revisionist history deception in todays wt lesson.. .
here is a quote from paragraph 4 of the 2/15/13 study edition.
"decades before 1914, jehovah's worshippers declared to the nations that the end of "the appointed times of the nations" would come in that year and that the world would enter into an unequaled period of trouble.".

Data-dog: The problem with the WTBTS is that they are intentionally vague after revising their own history and suppressing information about the very people who came up with their last remaining core doctrine!! Don't you see that?! 1914 is all that is left and it's not a revived, hidden truth! It's a lie! No 1914 = NO 1919!! - [Emphasis added]
Pulled from various threads on this subject:
For all intents and purposes, there are no current teachings/beliefs of JWs that are the same/similar as in Russell's day except these two:
- Soul sleep
- 1914 is the End of the Gentile Times
But Russell had a completely different idea of what 1914 was all about than how JWs currently "understand" it. As has been clearly proven countless times in this forum and repeated again in this thread, Russell believed 1914 would be The End culminating in Armageddon, not The Beginning of the End, the meaning of which would be revised at least six times between then and now and culminating in the current "Overlapping Generation" nonsense.
So essentially there is only one doctrine which Russell taught that is still currently believed by JWs and it isn't even an belief exclusive to them.
1. Soul Sleep, taken from the Second Adventists, which has two sub-beliefs/doctrines attached:
- No Hell
- No Immortality of the Soul, and
Of the the other, here's a little historical background you may find informative:
2. Gentile Times ended in 1914 which actually came from:
- An idea advanced by John Aquila Brown in 1823
- Expanded upon in the 1830's by a farmer named William Miller
- Later tweaked by Apollos Hale and Sylvester Bliss, whoever they were
- Exposed as false in 1840 by John Dowling, whoever he was
- Reworked by Second Adventists, such as Nelson H. Barbour after 1844
- Then finally take over by Charles Taze Russell as an end time prophecy, with the Gentile times expected to herald the conclusion of Armageddon, not the beginning of the Last Days as presently taught by JWs.
So practically EVERYTHING taught in Russell's time has been since discarded except these two basic beliefs, one of which he got from another religion and the other conceived of and then twisted and mangled by a bunch of crackpots all vying one-upsmanship style to prove their superior personal understanding of the incontrovertible Word of God. NOT!
Of the two beliefs, the evidence is clear that the second is false. And again, what JWs currently teach about it has a completely different meaning than Russell taught.
Regarding the first belief of Soul Sleep, from our perspective as living human beings, it is completely unverifiable either way. Although, ironically, I think most atheists would agree with this doctrine (minus the resurrection hope angle of course!). In fact, if you really examine it, the JW's idea of death and resurrection is more along the lines of what in Sci-Fi circles would be some form of "suspended animation." Even Satan gets this treatment when he is cast into the abyss and then later released according to the Aid/Insight book explanation of Revelation.

I don't remember if it was in CofC or ISoCF, but Ray Franz wrote that he believed the GB exhibited the traits that would qualify them to be the Evil Slave.
Anyone have the quote?

The New Diary of Winston Smith
by WinstonSmith inwe had to go off grid for a time, time and half a time as we thought we had been outed.
fortunately it was a false alarm, but it was a stressful time.
i asked for my original diary thread to be deleted in case there could be anything on there to identlfy mrs smith and i. i am always very careful when posting, and am sure there was nothing on there, but felt it best to have it removed in order to be as cautious as a dove.

Winston Smith: I got a text from an elder!!! The text read, and I quote: "Did I get your time for last month?"
If I got a text like that, I'd respond, "I'm fine, thanks! And how are you?"

It would be easy to develop the habit of couching one’s words in terms that are technically accurate but misleading. - WT 2002 5/1 page 16
Great find, BluesBrother!
This is exaclty what the WT writers have done in the WT statement referenced in the OP.
So by their own admission, they are guilty of treachery!

My experience today
by leaving_quietly indiscussion with wife today led to her questioning whether i believe or not.
i told her that i just can't roll over and accept everything new thing they say just like that.
we were, of course, talking about the "new light".

leaving_quietly: she hinted that the marriage did indeed depend on me being a good little witness boy.
Nice: emotional blackmail is a great way to ensure intimacy in a marriage.
Don't be too hard on her. She's just running her WT 2.0 software

leaving_quietly: No question. I agree. To an average JW, though, you have to respond to the exact words, which I attempted to do
No worries. Your point is well taken. I just want to make sure that we are all very clear, in particular for the benefit of any lurkers.

When someone makes a "technically true" statement regarding the "End of the Gentile Times" (or anything else for that matter) while simultaneously misrepresenting what C. T. Russell and the Bible Students understood to be the significance of that teaching, they are being dishonest.
It is possible that the WT writers really do not know what Russell taught about 1914. I find this hard to believe, but if true then it means that the WT writers are incompetent and do not even know their own history accurately.
It is much more likely that they DO know their history and that they are deliberately being deceptive using clever language to misrepresent what actually happened while allowing themselves "plausible deniability."
Today's WT is dishonest regarding what Russell taught concerning 1914.
Is this the way "God's Visible Organization" should be representing Jehovah?

Nice catch, BU2B. It's interesting that in the WT Study only last week we were encouraged thusly:
"We benefit from balanced consideration of the history of Jehovah’s organization, ... Moreover, we do well to examine our history, learn from it, and plan for the future." - The Watchtower, February 15, 2013, p. 12, para, 18
They say this, but look what happens when we actually do this!
We find glaring inconsistencies, contradictions and historical inaccuracies and outright revisions!
So, I have to ask myself, "Why would they encourage us to do something that would only expose their hypocrisy and lies?" The only reason I can figure that they would encourage the R&F to "examine our history" is that they know that you canNOT discovery their treachery without going to forbidden websites. In other words, they're calling your bluff.
Oubliette
BTW,What the heck is a "balanced consideration" of history?
