i will need to do some research on this but perhaps one of you fine folks know the answer to my question(s).. if a single (or widowed) jw woman wanted to have a child and she wanted to carry the baby herself (as opposed to adoption) and she decided to have artificial insemination, would the elder's try to df her?
what stance does the society take on this issue?
i mean, she didn't have sex.
Wow, thought everyone knew that one. Here is it with a few other fairly common net acronyms:
AFAIK - as far as I know
IMHO - in my humble opinion
IMNSHO - in my not so humble opinion
YMMV - your mileage may vary
HTH - hope this helps
HAND - have a nice day
ROFL - rolling on the floor laughing
ROFLMAO - rolling on the floor, laughing my ass off
IIRC - if I remember correctly
RTFM - read the fucking manual
IOW - In other words
OTOH - On the other hand
PEKUSH - Press Every Key Until Something Happens
AIUI - As I Understand It
A pretty full list is here:

It has come up in one of our old halls several times - there were a couple couples there who could not conceive.
Don't recall the articles in question, but the borg considers artificial insemination the same as fornication - using, IIRC, loosely the same argument against blood.
You'll recall the bible never said anything about blood transfusions, but the society prohibits them since the bible DOES condemn 'eating blood.' Since that was the only way to get it into your body at the time, the society argues that what was meant was ANY way to get blood in your body was banned and this was the only way the Hebrews would understand it.
Ditto with this - taking another man's sperm (other than her husband's) into her body was committing 'fornication'. I don't recall their position on artificial insemination between husband and wife in case of other medical problems. IIRC, that is okay (just weird).

the following is taken from questions from readers p.31 of the my 1, 2002 watchtower.
it is the wt response to the question: "when john saw the "great crowd" rendering sacred service in jehovah's temple, in which part of the temple were they doing this?".
quote.
I'm terribly sorry, but my dubspeak->English translator must be broken.
In other words, does anyone know what the hell they are on about now?
I did like this one:
In the earthly courtyards of Jehovah's great spiritual temple, men and women are not separated in their worship
Oh, no, of COURSE not. There are no special meetings of congregation overseers women can't attend. Nope. And the GB? The women on it attend the same meetings the men do, right? Oh, wait, THERE ARE NO WOMEN GB MEMBERS!

... on the news yesterday they announced that president bush had made a statement regarding the elections in zimbabwe, that they were 'severely flawed' or something, and that the result shouldn't stand.
this caused her much amusement.
i know there's not that much of a comparison, but it's funny how people forget, isn't it?.
Yeah, Hmmm is just kidding.
American geography problems are WAY overrated - I mean, every American knows damn well Zimbabwe is on Australia!

my pre-med students sponsored a blood drive yesterday and asked me to donate.
so, i donated blood for the first time.
I've always wanted to ask someone who got a tongue piercing...
Didja do it just for the look? Or because of the....uhh...the OTHER thing tongue piercings are rumored to be good for.
(if you don't mind me asking )

.....is never played at witness weddings?.
its not a hymn, after all.
also, i recall that in my dubbing days, the wt said it was ok to play classical music over the pa system.
Hmmmm...wonder if that's why a handfasting or 'jumping the broom' is right out???
ROFLMAO!!
I just LOVE that "oh, GOD, it's PAGAN!!! AWAY HEATHEN!!! {makes cross sign} hssss hssssss"

i remember when i was a kid i used to assuage my fear of dying with the comfort and knoweledge that i was one of the "millions now living that may never die.
" but even as a kid, i used to think to myself that after a thousand or so years of living with these boring people that i see at the kingdom hall, that sooner or later i would become bored as hell.
after all, everything really fun seemed to be a sin and after a thousand years of bowling with my fellow witnesses and groveling on my knees thanking jehovah for every breath that i took, wouldn't i get bored at some point?
think of how good you would get at Nintendo
Nintendo? With all those violent games?? Oh, no - there would be no Nintendo in the new system.
In fact, I had a weird justification when I was 'in'. I honestly believed they had the whole and complete truth and felt obligated to tell everyone else about it so they had a chance to live the society's promise of forever-in-paradise.
I wanted nothing to do with it myself, though. I LOVE wargames (miniature and pen-and-paper). I LOVE computer games - shooters and action/adventure and flight-sims. I LOVE studying military history. I LOVE computers (can't build them in the new system without polluting the environment, and where does the electricity come from? - besides, who needs them? So what if it takes 1000 years to solve an equation now, we've got the time!)
Sex is great, but you can't do it all day every day. Without the above hobbies (all no-nos in new system according to COs and DOs), I'd just as soon not live forever.
and still not have started to live forever
And what about population? Can't leave the planet without building rockets, which pollute the environment. How many generations of humans that won't ever die do you think the ecosystem could support?
(We once had a CO that simply assumed after a certain point humans would just stop having sex - no need to reproduce, and since that was the only god-approved reason for sex, our 'sex drive' would just be turned off - we'd be 'as the angels' were - living only to praise god day and night - and he actually seemed to ENJOY the thought!!!)

Don't know about you, but 100% of the weddings in our congregation (well, except me and my wife's) were in the hall. The elders REALLY frowned on weddings outside the hall - in fact, one wouldn't give the wedding talk if it wasn't in the hall.
Never been to a witness funeral, though. Can't help there. Did go to a military funeral once - my grandpa was a WWII vet.
Don't think I've ever cried so much in my life. Those guys know how to honor their dead.
