  has anyone ever written to the society,with evidence of misquotes, and asked them for an explanation of this?

  or has anyone ever written and asked them why they quote and don't give the source of the quote?

  if i did this, do you think i would get into trouble in the congregation, etc.?

  You Know,

  I understand what you are saying about even Jehovah's organization making mistakes and stumbling blocks coming up, etc. But if I adopt that "waiting" attitude, leaving it to Jah to take care of the problems, it still creates a difficulty in field service.
  I mean, how can I continue going out and inviting others to come into the organization when I see some very serious stumbling blocks inside it? I mean, using the logic, "All human organizations are imperfect, there's bad things going on in every religion, but the Witnesses have less bad than the others" isn't going to fly, is it?

  Also, I'm not sure how Jehovah wants us to handle these mistakes going on in the organization. The Bible is full of examples, both of those who chose to ENDURE and WAIT on Jehovah to correct matters (David, who wouldn't strike out against Saul), and those who SPOKE UP about wrongdoing (counseling David for taking Bathsheba and killing her husband).

  So it's not so black and white, trying to determine how to handle it.

Or has anyone ever written and asked them why they quote and don't give the source of the quote? If I did this, do you think I would get into trouble in the congregation, etc.? It shouldn't be wrong to ask a question or want some proof, since the scriptures tell us to make sure, as the Boreans did, that what we are told is "really so." I'm just thinking about writing and asking about this matter, and wondering if anyone else has done this and/or what the response was.

  Yes, the misquoting, or lack of references with quotes, bothers me alot. I've just started noticing it. I wonder what the Society would say if someone wrote a letter to them, with evidence of the misquotes, and respectfully asked for an explanation for this? And also asked why they are reading and quoting from information they tell us is dangerous wisdom of this world? I just don't understand this at all. I'd like to write and ask them this. I wonder what would happen.

  first post.. i am in college studying engineering.

  does anyone else here in college feel like they have to work twice as hard as everyone else in the cong.

  Hi Tigerlily,

  I too am going to college. At age 37, I have about 2 years in so far. Now that the Society has softened their view on college somewhat, I see lots of Witnesses going (both young ones and older ones).

  I've not had anyone say negative things to me about going (at least not to my face). What disturbs me, though, is that when the Society strongly discouraged JWs from going to college, hardly anyone went. (And those that did were somewhat frowned on. I know personally of a JW family where each child (5 of them) went to college. It was looked down on at the time, and I remember people talking disapprovingly behind their backs. Now, they are all either elders, COs, pioneers, or serving at Bethel. And everyone thinks they're great.)

  What's disturbing to me is that, in matters where there are scriptural principles (seek the Kingdom first;avoid worldly thinking), we look to the Society to give us SPECIFIC rules, and then we do what they say. In other words, can we go to college or not? And depending on the answer, we do that.

  It makes it look like we are following men, I think.

  I'm trying to find out to what extent, if any, the organization is currently involved in politics/military and/or economic dishonesty.

  p.s. Why are there different kinds of "members" in the postings? Is it based on how many times you've posted, or something else?

  I don't mean to be nosy. I'm just wondering how many are in a situation like mine (still in, but struggling).

  Also, if you are an "X-JW," how long have you been out? How long did you have serious "struggles/doubts" before leaving, and do you feel happier now, less happy, or about the same level of happiness since leaving?

  If you don't mind telling me, I'd really like to know.
