I stand corrected. The reason, I guess, why i did write it was that was the impression I´d got through writings here..

i have been on various boards the past decade.. i cannot help but see that in some respects, esp.
american jw ism is more extreme than its scandinavian counterpart, perhaps both ways.
of course this also has to do with the fact that in american society, religion plays a far greater role than in scandinavia... but it seems that its practiced in a more stern way in some parts in the u (e.g.

bt. Interesting notes, what can be said of your country that might be somewhat different than mainstream jw-ism?

And also accepted in the Netherlands and Ireland I´ve been told.
Therefore, it is not that strange that the elder in the Danish film Worlds Apart (To verdener) is wearing a beard, although his length of wair is somewhat long even by Danish JW standard, I´d presume.

Of course this also has to do with the fact that in American society, religion plays a far greater role than in Scandinavia... But it seems that its practiced in a more stern way in some parts in the U (e.g. mid-west), whereas it seems to be more lax e.g. in California (I remember the examples of elaborate weddings that was commented once in the Watchtower, about someone having dozens of brides maids etc wavng umbrellas in the KH etc)....
However, I would like to note some "peculiarites" about European JW-ism:
dancing not endorsed at Swedish weddings
beards alllowed for elders in e.g. Denmark
witnesses travelling abroad at christmas time so much that it even made headlines in regional newspaper
winter resort having hundres of witnesses at memorial (in a congo with less than ten publishers)
beer served at assembly hall inaugeration in Germany (was tol so be some friends, not witnessed myself)
things unique to the US:
sisters obliged to wear pantyhose
smurf mania
i have some old notes from a 1981 circuit assembly.
brother frank bartell was the district overseer.
i am pretty sure its 1981 or 1982.. anyway, in his last talk he said that there was a terrible situation in cleveland ohio the previous year (1980).
bttt might someone verify my watchtower reference.

Actually, an article in the Watchtower alludes to this taking place. It stated that Shocking things had happened in the mid-west.... It was even written in translated issues of the Watchtower.
Sure Blondie might find that reference...
I asked an ex-Bethelite (however, not an ex-witness) aboout it... He said it alluded to a prostitution ring... So it definitely had to do with sex...
i'm looking for web site links to credible information about present governing body members specifically personal tax and financial records (personal u.s. and offshore bank accounts, net worth, financial and real estate holdings, blind trusts).
as public figures they're fair game..
In Norway all information on tax, income and fortune is public knowledge and accessible on web sites etc.
So it is easy to get to know the economic situation of those working e.g. at bethel.
No surprise there....Those who have e.g. fortune, have most likeli inherited those funds.
is the society violating the 3rd commandment by naming the street of theuir branch on guam "jehovah street"?.
.
3you shall not take the name of the lord your god in vain, for the lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.
I once read about this in a yearbook or something (might be another publication). It was of course the authorities that named the street that way....
since we are unable to bring forth a class-action law suit against the watchtower society due to laws in place that protect religion, has anyone thought about or tried to expose the jw's in the media?
people need to be aware this is not a loving group of people as they want to be perceived.
everything i read recently placed alot of blame on jw"s who have left since it is their fault they joined in the first place.
Strange, in Scandinavia when programmes on JWs are showed on TV, it generally has very good ratings and coverage in newspapers as well...
They do not constitute a larger part of the population there than in the US.
there was a scripture about a rod.......it seemed to be in every other watchtower.....it was an excuse to beat children.
i was a little girl.
i was beat with my pants down every time they could.
Only got spankings twice in my life. And that had nothing to do that my parents were JWs, more that I misbehaved and deserved it.
However, since for decades now, all references on physical discipline has been removed from Watchtower literature in Norwegian. I guess sometimes the translation had to be somewhat rephrased compared to the original English text.
I do not think physical discipline is more practiced by JWs now than the general population, e.g. it is actually illegal.
