  i grew up a jw.

  finally stopped attending meetings at age 31.. in all that time, i never "progressed" beyond the ministry school, wt reading and the microphone running stage.. it was not for lack of so-called encouragement.

  without wanting to blow my own trumpet, i'm was a good public reader and speaker (mostly because of copying words and sentence structure from the likes of charles dickens in my talks).

  Tina, were you not aware of the whole congregation involved in the disciple-making process? Yes: The one who conducted the study. The one who gave the Bible student a friendly welcome to the Kingdom Hall. The one who set a good example at school/work. Just because you never had a study dipped doesn't mean ur free from community responsibility.

  I saw the sadness in McVeigh's eyes.

  My first view of the OK Cty disaster was in a second hand store on a used black and white TV they were trying to sell. Surreal. My son was disfellowshipped at the time and bears a striking resemblance to T. McV. Same age, appr.

  Barnes and Noble is my home away from home. Why go to a library when you can read in a love couch for free and drink a mocha?

  Its a clever strategy, though, cause I have never purchased more books before.

  Enamored with retiring in Mexico, I purchased all twenty-seven books on Mexico. Never would have happened in a prim and proper, old-fashioned ("May I help you?"} book store.

  Sliding back to the original protest-song topic, many householders used the desparaging term "draft-dodger" at the door. I always knew where my draft card was and was quick to retrieve it, showing I had not "dodged" the draft, but was duly registered and had received a IVD classification(MINISTER OF RELIGION).

  My commonality with the "peaceknicks" was narrow. I was not anti-Vietnam, per se or anti-war. I believed in God's great final war. Thus, I was not a pacifist. But I was not willing to absorb a Nipponized bit of the old 6th Ave. El or as General Sherman said: "War is ----."

  i was just thinking that the 'goodness' jw's display doesn't necessarily have to be 'pure' goodness, if u know what i mean.. i mean they become so obsessed and dependant on the wts telling them what they can, can't, should, shouldn't, will, and wont do that they no longer make 'pure' judgements for themselves.

  even if what the wts is 'good, christian advice', as long as they're not deciding to do it themselves, it loses the righteousness that making decisions, good and bad, is all about.. it's like having really domineering parents who tell u exactly what to do, u do it through fear, not through the will to do good, u don't learn, u only learn to obey.. any comments?.
