according to the la times, anderson cooper is gay and no one was surprised about it.
was anyone here shocked by the news?

It was no surprise to me..
I have been watching some shows on the BBC channel about a "Thrid Gender" and am thinking this would be a good idea..till you start thinking there is more to it than just "Gay".
It gets so complicated with passports , restrooms etc. They need to come up with so many new ways to handle things.

The reform aims to curb gender discrimination
Australians have been given a third choice when describing their gender on passport applications, under new guidelines aimed at removing discrimination.
Transgender people and those of ambiguous sex will be able to list their gender as indeterminate, which will be shown on passports as an X.
People whose gender was different from that of their birth were previously required to have reassignment surgery before they could change their passport to their preferred sex.
An Australian senator, Louise Pratt - whose partner was born female and is now identified as a man - said the reform was a huge step forward.
"There have been very many cases of people being detained at airports by immigration in foreign countries simply because their passports don't reflect what they look like," she told Australian radio.
"It's very distressing, highly inconvenient and frankly sometimes dangerous."
Funny Movie!
word on the street is though katie holmes knew cruise is deep into scientology, she now has a better understading of this cult and wants to protect their child from the cult.
i guess tom and scientology has turned his and nicole kidman's kids against kidman.
now that suri is coming of age, holms does not want suri to become a scientologiest and is afraid this same outcome will befall her if she doesn't get full custody of suri .. the interesting thing is holmes is going to have to prove scientology is dangerous to her child and new york is not a joint custody/friendly state.
He didn't look very religious in his last film..(Rock Of Ages) Loved the movie..
Haven't heard that rumor as yet tho..
Being single may help his career ..
*Edited to add: I looked it up and it looks like it's all about the money with Katie..
In the event of a divorce, the document states, Holmes would be awarded $3 million for each year that she and Cruise, 49, were married — up to a possible $33 million. She will also receive the couple’s home in Montecito, Calif., MSNBC reported in 2006. If their marriage had lasted more than 11 years, Holmes would have received half of Cruises’s reportedly $250 million fortune.
Their separation could lead to a legal battle over custody of their six-year-old daughter Suri, although both sides have stated that Suri’s welfare is their highest concern.
Holmes’s parents originally wanted her to avoid marrying Cruise, a tipster told The Scoop magazine in 2006, but then changed their minds. “If she walks now, Tom will fight her for custody of [Suri], and Katie can’t outlast him in court,” an insider told The Scoop in 2006. “She knows she needs to marry him to get the money to fight him for custody, if it comes to that.”
If Holmes wins custody of their daughter, the child support payments she’s entitled to could prove sizeable. When model Linda Evangelista split with her French billionaire boyfriend earlier this year, a court awarded her $550,000 in annual child support payments
at what point do we know a pedophile has repented of his sin?
how long should we shun a child sex offender, should the watchtower have thrown out the sex offenders the congregation for five, ten, twenty years?
how should a congregation deal with a sex offender who thinks he has grappled and beaten his urges?.
I also wanted to comment that I always thought a pedophile can control/be controlled as far as their behavior goes but they should not be trusted alone ever with a child.
My original thought is that they should all be shipped to a remote island with no way off..They actually do have a island like that. They need more..lots more.
Snoozy..

Since when are they shunned? I never heard that before.
I don't remember having any sex offenders talked about at our hall but I did see a lot of inappropriate behavior between some fathers and daughters..fathers were too touchy feely for me. Course no one ever said anything about it.
I saw a true story about a teen girl that was missing and a year had almost passed. No leads. a prisoner that was in jail for murder contacted them and told them he could lead them to where she was. They were unsure if he was telling the truth or just wanting a day out of jail..
They made a deal with him that they would not use any info he told them or showed them against him to tie him to her murder.
They finally found her remains..they never would have found them as it was in a very remote area of California. He had buried her there he said.. They were trying to find a way to prosecute him legally for the crime.
In the process of looking for leads or just a routine stop I don't remember but a police pulled a man over that was a registered sex offender ..he had a 3 year old girl in the car alone with him. He said he was no longer on parole and there was nothing they could do.
He said the child was his girfriends daughter. They contacted the mother/girlfriend and she told them she knew all about it and she was fine with it..*sigh*.
I hoped they alerted the child welfare division on the woman..
Snoozy..who can't believe what some people do..
1) kidnappers are not very interested in you.. 2) in a hostage situation you are likely to be.
released first.. 3) no one expects you to run anywhere.. 4) people call at 9pm (or 9am) and ask, did.
i wake you?.
How about one for over 70..?
Good part of getting older is you have learned how to cope and enjoy life for what it is..trouble is you won't live long enough to enjoy what you have learned..
A saying/song I have loved since I first heard it was:
"I wish I knew what I know now, when I was younger."
One of the perks (besides the others mentioned) is that you can use your age for excuses when you screw up..or when you want to do something others consider stupid..
You also take more of an interest in taking care of yourself..as you tell yourself "If I knew I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself..
If only the younger generation would listen when we try to warn them*sigh*.
You also get to "Know" people. You can almost predict how they will turn out by watching and listening to them.
Snoozy..who would gladly change ages with you..(If I could still know what I know now)..

Lyrics:
Poor old Granddad, I laughed at all his words
I thought he was a bitter man
he spoke of women's ways
they'll trap you when they use you
before you even now
for love is blind and you're far to kind
don't ever let it show
I wish that I knew what I know now
when I was younger
I wish that I knew what I know now
when I was stronger
the can-can such a pretty show
will steal your heart away
but backstage back on earth again
the dressing rooms are grey
they come on strong and it ain't too long
for they make you feel a man
but love is blind and you soon will find
you're just a boy again
when you want her lips, you get her cheek
makes you wonder where you are
if you want some more then she's fast asleep
leaves you twinkling with the stars
poor young grandson there's nothing I can say
you'll have to learn, just like me
and that's the hardest way
ooh la la
ooh la la, la la, yeah
I wish that I knew what I know now
when I was younger
I wish that I knew what I know now
when I was stronger

Lyrics
I know I didn't call
But I'll be alone in a little while
You know sometimes when I don't call
I still get along in a little while
I know sometimes I wonder
Sometimes I take too long
But I know where I'm heading
I know I'd be alone
I know I didn't call
But I'll be alone in a little while
You know sometimes when I don't call
I still get along in a little while
Oh, I don't mean to leave you
When I'm up and I'm gone
See, I know where I'm heading
With you where I belong
I know I didn't call
But I'll be alone in a little while
You know sometimes when I don't call
I still get along in a little while
I know I didn't call
But I'll be alone in a little while
You know sometimes when I don't call
I still get along in a little while
I know I didn't call
Sometimes when I don't call
[I know I didn't call]
I'll be alone
Sometimes when I don't call
