what do people usually think of when they buy a house?
"i will probably live here for a long time" (you're invested with your time), "i will save money by building equity over time".
(you've invested in yourself financially for the long run) of course, i wouldn't be able to list the numerous reasons why people want to buy a house.
In the congregation I attended in the 80s and 90s, many of the elders and ministerial servants owned homes. And this was in a relatively lower-middle class part of New York City, where there were a lot of apartment-dwellers. One of the elders was a long-time JW who knew many of the GB members pretty closely. He had a few interesting stories to tell.
I don't recall ever hearing a negative word about home ownership, aside from the usual warnings against "the love of money" and similar ideas. I can recall murmuring from people about the nice car that so-and-so owned, the nice clothes that so-and-so wore, and so on. But not about houses. I guess when the higher-ups in the congregation are home-owners, people know better than to judge.
do you remember some of the weird and wacky stuff emanating from the watchtower society?
let's make a list from memory that we can use to inject a little humor into our discussions with jehovah's witnesses.
- venus may be an enormous jurassic park.. - germs don't cause disease.. - no beards allowed.
Good thing they printed that article back then. We might still be counting on our fingers today!
unlike men who took no note, surely the fallen angels knew of gods plan to flood the earth, so why didn't they build an ark(s) for their nephilum sons?
.
More to the point: Why did God create this giant flood killing all humanity, saving one family to start over.....yet this same family are still 'fallen'
Indeed, it didn't take long for Noah to grow grapes, make wine, and get drunk. He stripped off his clothes and passed out. So who committed the real sin?
His son, who saw his father naked and reported this to his brothers. LOL

It seems like he spends his time on Twitter alternating between being rude to people and complaining that people are being mean to him. How entitled can someone get?

Hi BottanicPepper,
Information is controlled, and when you live in a sleepy town in the heart of England there was no need to doubt.
I can assure you that the bustling city of New York in the 70s and 80s was quite the same. Possibly even more so, since the organization was headquartered there. And even though we were close to it and were able to visit with less effort, the pilgrimage was no less sacred and special for many. It's amazing how easy it was to keep people in the dark before the internet tore down all of those walls.

I must say, I misjudged Andrew Gold. He has gone full scorched earth on Evans as a result of being used as a propaganda tool. Taking Gold for granted may turn out to be his biggest mistake, in the end.

But it's OK, Lloyd just engaged his hooker-background-checking department to verify all the ones he "dated".
From the first time that he insisted that he only went to sex workers who were at least 20 years old, I was getting the "she told me she was 18" vibe. I'd love to hear him explain his system for confirming that these 'girls' were at least 20 years old. It would be partly amusing, but mostly horrifying, is my guess.

Some people seem uncomfortable with the attention Evans is getting when he's caught with his pants down.
Perhaps if Evans himself would stop talking about it...
14 jesus provides wise direction in times of crisis.
the benefits of that direction were evident when the covid-19 pandemic broke out.
while many in the world were uncertain about what course to take, jesus made sure that we received clear guidance to keep us safe.
If they're not inspired how does Jesus communicate with the these guys?
They want to have it both ways. Similar to what I said before- if they get something right, it demonstrates that God is working through them. If they get something wrong, they're fallible men who don't always get it right. What they don't add to the latter is: they don't get it right, even though God works through them(????).
As for not being infallible, they tell their followers to obey even if it seems unreasonable.
And that, of course, is the real danger in the way they act. They have even made it clear that if someone teaches something that contradicts current GB teaching, that is apostasy... even if they make that teaching canon at a future time. Being right or wrong is not the most important factor, in their minds- being obedient is. Do they accept that explanation for any other religion or organization on Earth?
