Hey Skipper there ya go with the gloom and doom stuff that you were once so popular with on Tishie's board. I have always enjoyed your insights and the way you presented them, but they always seemed to cast a shadow of the dark side. I'm not much for thinking we are all walking around in a Norman Rockwell painting but you might want to take a peek into the possibilities of something with a little more positive perspective.
Orson Wells War of the Worlds got the reaction it did for several reasons. First of all the social and political climate of the times was the fear of world war two having it start in Europe and people fearing Hitler and his hordes. Second the presentation was conducted over the radio and had no previous advertising to get the listeners prepared for it being nothing more than a radio drama. You mix fear with miscommunication and you get the reaction that they got.
We have had quantum leaps in field of communication since that time and the average person doesn't think twice about sending a human into space. Most people don't even know when the space shuttle is launched until there is some kind of problem. Space travel is old news now. I think people are a lot more at ease with pondering the concept that if we can do it, maybe someone else could also. As I said in my previous post, if an alien race has the ability to conquer the speed of light theory then maybe they have the maturity and intelligence to do the whole thing right. It would be stupid on their part to just drop in and scare the hell out of everyone. I don't think a race with the capabilities discussed would be that stupid.
As far as the religious faction loosing it and falling apart with fear, well, that's kind of their whole profile isn't it. Many Christians believe that Jesus is going to float down to earth and raise everyone up in the rapture. Why would an alien presence be so different in theory? If you can look at it as an alien introduction as opposed to an alien invasion you might be able to feel a little more relaxed about the whole thing. Not every species is as violently reactive as humans. As far as alien experiments on humans go, why is that such a foreign concept. Have you ever been to a slaughter house or seen the life and times of a Resis monkey? Have you ever been to a chicken farm and see how the chickens are raise their whole life in a 12 inch by 12 inch cage until they are yanked out of them and hug upside down with their throats cut? I have, it isn't pretty.
What has been described in those alien abduction stories are not even close to what humans have done to other animal life on this planet. We having the egotistical thought that we own this planet has corrupted our minds into the thought that we can do no wrong and that we have permission to do as we please to other animal and plant species. I fear a human invasion much more than that of an intelligent alien one. If they come and they do want to kick our ass, there isn't much we could do about it any way. I just don't believe a more intelligent race would have that objective. We tend to think that just because this is how we are that every one else is like us. I hope the hell not. Just something for you to think about. I thought this thread might draw you out. It's good to read your thoughts, I have always enjoyed them.
