Maximus, you make a good point about Gangas. I knew most of the GB, and Gangas was the one above all that seemed most sincere. If there was one GB member who wasn't a rat, he was it. His whole life revolved around the Bible, and preaching. Other GB members might have avoided service, but not Gangas. I have to believe he was sincere.

spiritual paradise and Bro. Gangas (GB)
by D wiltshire inwhen i was a bethelite 1974-76 the evening meals were what we called free-seating (no asigned seating).. i sat at a table with (gb member)george gangas.
he would regularly have questions that he would ask the younger brothers (kind of a bible trivia).. but being that i was only baptized 2 or 3 years i didn't want to answer questions, but i had one i wanted to asked him.. what is this spiritual paradise that the society keeps talking about?.
when i asked him he choked on his soup, and said he didn't know.. i felt bad that he didn't know.. about 2 days latter i sit at his table and basically the same brothers are their.

I still tend to think he must have misunderstood the question, something he was wont to do in English. He was asking that question prior to 1975.

There must be something lost in the translation, because that story just doesn't add up. Gangas was well known for asking that particular question (what is the spiritual paradise) to everyone and anyone. He would explain it endlessly, every time he asked.
Now, he might have misunderstood your question, or he might have taken it as you saying there was no such thing. But there is no way he didn't know the answer to his favorite question of all time.
I'm not trying to be harsh here, but this is something that just couldn't be. Let me illustrate: it would be as if someone said they went up to Rutherford and asked him, "Religion is a snare and a what?" and they claimed that Rutherford had no idea. That's how closely the "spiritual paradise" and Gangas were entwined. Anything else, maybe, but not that particular question. It must have been a cross-communication misunderstanding or something.

Atheists at it again
by Rex B13 inthe site changed but the atheist proseletyzing continues.
isn't it odd how our two norwigs compliment each other in their attacks on god and the bible?
well, simon, you now have the honor of hosting a platform for the true apostates to spew their anti-god venom.. this kind of thing is sadly typical of those who leave the wts.

Why there is more evidence for the life, times and history of Jesus Christ than any other figure EVER known.
ROFL! And you said that with a straight face? And now you want us to take what you said seriously? LOL...
Oh, wait a minute, I get it. You think anything written about Jesus = evidence, and because there are so many Christians who love to write about Jesus that must mean lots of evidence, huh?
ROFL!

Maximus,
From the moment that WT article came out about the "given ones" in the early 90s (while I was still active), I knew that this was the beginning of an inexorable movement to allow non-anointed to be on the GB. As the years have gone by, I've seen each step moving closer to that goal. This announcement is just more of the same stuff I've been watching for years.
Of course, when they finally do that, it will totally invalidate so many teachings the WTS has used over the years to prove the anointed must take the lead until the end. But that's OK. By the time they slip this change in completely, only the old fogies will have any clear memore of this problem, and by then they will probably be conditioned to think it was only their imperfect interpretation that led them to believe this.

children, abuse, and the law
by peaceloveharmony intoday for work, i was scheduled to attend a training session called "mandatory reporting".
since i work in the public sector and i work for children (as a child support collections officer) i am mandated by state law to "make a child protection report if [i] know or have reason to believe that: a child is being neglected or abused; or has been neglected or abused in the preceding three years".
(quote from the handbook passed out at meeting).

With each state having its own laws on the matter of reporting, I'm sure this is why the WTS requires elders to contact the Legal Dept whenever abuse is reported. The boys in Legal must have a list of which states require reporting and which ones don't, and they advise accordingly.
Of course, if this were the right religion, they would just do what's right, not merely what's forced on them by law.

The knife thing is just sick. How they can even metion this as an example is beyond me, for the sister showed a distinct lack of common sense. What she should have done is gone to the hospital. Anything else is just mind control.
But this is the eye-opening quote:
In the past, when reference has been made to responsible brothers
in the early days, such as Brothers Russell, Rutherford, and Knorr, they
have often been identified as "President of the Watch Tower Society."
However, in line with adjustments made at last year's Annual Meeting,
emphasis in recent months has been placed on the spiritual role of these
brothers, as opposed to simply their position in a legal corporation.
Now these brothers may be referred to as members of the Governing Body, or
as ones taking the lead among the Bible Students.Bingo! Here is the next step being taken toward allowing Other Sheep to sit on the Governing Body. The brothers are being told not to refer to the past Presidents as that. Drop the titles. Just refer to them as those taking the lead. Even though they really were the presidents back then!
They want to condition the friends to stop thinking of titles, but using the more general "those taking the lead." It's now a very short leap toward non-anointed taking over completely.

I know one molestor, who had at least 6 victims that I personally knew about.
There were two others who I suspect, but don't have enough evidence to say for sure.
