  Bulger killers release - just?

  with the news that the killers of jamie bulger have been released, it would be interesting to know how people feel.. from the mcveigh thread it seems that many americans believe the death penalty would have been appropriate.. i do not know whether many in the us know of the case in britain of a 2 year old being tortured and murdered by two 10 year olds.

  but now 8 years later they have been released.. i know of the arguments that they have been rehabilitated since killing jamie bulger.....but is this really justice?

  Ah, a response, thank you! So what do you disagree with? Do you feel:

  a) That our personalities are irrevocably set at age three and there is nothing that can be done about it for all time?

  b) That is is possible to know the minds of the killers in this case, and thus pass judgment on them from afar?

  c) That it is a complete impossibility for these persons to be productive members of society someday. Not even the slightest chance this could happen, no matter the circumstance?

  d) The way to make it up to the family who loses a loved one is to kill thier killers?

  Just curious which of those statements reflects your feelings and, more importantly, why?

  These boy's personalities were formed and fixed, if we can believe the real experts, by the time they were three years old.

  As were all of our personalities formed and fixed by age three. But not irrevocably. Many people have received the training and help needed to change damaging personality traits they held. We are not slaves of the person we were at age three (or 13 or 23).

  As for these boys, I don't believe any of us are in the least bit qualified to say what they have or have not accomplished in their personalities over the last 8 years. Nor can any of us predict what they will do with their lives. For that, we have to trust the experts whose job it was to make that determination.

  But if is a fallacy to think they are incapable of being productive members of society. They may not turn out to be, but the possibility does exist, no matter what we may think of them or their crime.

  What happened was horrible and a tragedy, no mistake. Since this topic is one of justice, however, let us ask this question: What would serve as justice for the Bulger boy's death? Would killing the killers be 'just'? If so, how so? How would it help the Bulger family? It certainly won't bring Jamie back, or make it up to the family. I'd rather not talk about 'an eye for an eye' since that is an ancient barbaric custom, IMO. This is the 21st century; let's move on with humanity.

  If I had a loved one killed, I would not choose to have someone else killed as recompense. That would not help me in any way, but it would bring pain to another family in the process.

  There is no justice for the death of a loved one. It is a completely unjust act, and nothing can make it up.

  Gleaning at Bethel

  want to see bethelites act like greedy scavengers?

  just check out the tail end of bethel family breakfast, lunch or dinners.

  for those not familar with this phenomenon, gleaning was when bethelites could basically bring their tupperware dishes down and store up on the leftover meals once the family was dismissed (usually by prayer, except for the bethel dinner).

  Sorry to put a downer on this but, to be truthfull, I never saw anything like that after a meal.

  qwerty, do you mean you have been to one of each type of meal at Bethel (dinner once, breakfast one time, etc.)? If so, you may have been there for the wrong meals. Some meals aren't popular at all. Or you may have been at a table that had no leftovers, and thus no scavengers approached.

  Those of us who saw this know that it happens. Maybe not every day, maybe not to extremes all the time, and certainly not everyone does it, or does it in a rude way. But these stories are so funny and believable to me because I saw it with my own eyes.

  like metatron, i would like to know the facts that exist to prove that in the time of rutherford, bethelites and others got regularily serviced at a local brothel (as stated by barbara gazzutis in her book).

  if similar stories exist today, i would be glad to know about them as the wts takes delight in expossing jim swaggart and others!

  You Know has no clue whether or not what Barbare wrote it accurate. Instead, he reacted with his usual misguided loyalty that made him trash what she said just because she is an "apostate." He doesn't think, he picks sides. If Ted Jaracz left the organization today, tomorrow You Know would be telling us that he never liked the guy, and he always knew he was a no good liar. See, no thought, just choosing sides.

  I say 'misguided' loyalty, because the brothers at Bethel laugh at this stooge. He is pitiful in their eyes, so all his loyalty is for naught. Besides, if they ever found out about his mixing with apostates on this site, You Know would be kicked on his rear. Just look at how panicky You Know got when Farkel threatened to turn him in a few weeks back.

  So You Know isn't fighting you, or contradicting you, or adding to this thread in any meaningful way. He's merely barking for his 'side', ignoring all the facts in the process. Now, if this pitiful guy had ever been to Bethel, as so many of us have, he would know the truth to these stories. Bethelites know all about this stuff. They are just told to keep it from the outsiders. You Know is the ultimate outsider.

  if you haven't already related to us the experiences at bethel that you told to your mom-in-law, (or even if you already have told us) could you tell us about what you told her.....and...what is "g-jobbing" (sorry for my naivity) .

  i didn't want to take away from sl post about his mother but i thought a little insight into the world of the bethelites would be interesting this am.

  thought you all would enjoy this.. i went to a b'day party for a friend who is a bible-thumper in the worst way!

  (10x worse than most jw).. i'm sitting around like a zombie while everyone is talking about how "blessed" they are to "know christ" blah blah blah blah blah.. then my interest got peaked as one of the women started quoting scripture talking about how the reason her life is blessed is that her great great grandmother was a russian mennonite blah blah blah and the bible says that god will bless your offspring if you come to know him.

  blah blah blah.. so i start asking a few well placed questions like "well what does that mean for the poor muslim sop whose great great grandmother was a muslim?

  Do I believe in the Koran? NO. Because it denies the divinity of Jesus Christ, and also denies His sacrifice.

  And the Bible does not extol Mohammed as God's prophet, so clearly the Bible shouldn't be believed by your reasoning.
